We all love camping and there is no better feeling than putting up that brand new tent for for the first time, sitting down and admiring your new acquisition with a well deserved drink. Well it needn't be like that and you can keep you tent looking new for a long time to come by taking some simple steps to care and maintain for your tent. Cleaning

To help you maintain a clean and respectable looking tent we have put together the following guidelines to cleaning:

• Choose a dry, bright day to ensure the tent material dries completely,
• Cleaning a tent should include simple things such as brushing off the mud and dirt that accumulates each camp, you can do this by either using a soft brush or a dry cloth ensuring you remove any mud patches, grass, twigs etc,
• Always use a specialist tent cleaning product, other detergents or cleaning agents not made for the job may damage the fabric of the tent,
• After cleaning always use a re-proofing product to ensure your tent remains watertight.

There are many cleaning products on the market for your tent and The UKCampsite.co.uk were asked to put the Oggie Tent Cleaner to the test:

The Oggie Tent Cleaner comes in a handy 500ml trigger spray bottle that allows ease of use and the application is easy allowing an even spread of the cleaner of the tent. For maximum results ensure that your tent is free of loose dirt and is dry. To apply hold the bottle 10 - 12" away from the tent and spray a section at a time, I chose to spray an area approx. 2' x 2'. The cleaner is left to soak in for around 30 seconds before rinsing off, I found that for the more stubborn stains that a hard brush e.g. a nail brush did the trick. Ensure that you do always rinse thoroughly. Once you have cleaned your tent always allow it to dry naturally, do not use artificial heat to dry the tent as this may cause the material to dry out and become brittle and useless. 

I found that the cleaner worked well even on some of the more stubborn mould stains (from where I had to pack away wet once), but on occasion I did have to go back and re-apply the cleaner onto certain areas, but these were mould stains of old! and it certainly got the tent clean.

Waterproofing

Always ensure that your tent is clean and dry before re-proofing it, we recommend that you clean your tent thoroughly beforehand and suggest Oggie Tent Cleaner as a very suitable product for the need.

The Oggie Tent Reproofer comes in a handy 1 litre trigger spray bottle and is applied directly to the material with no fuss of diluting, painting on, wearing protective equipment etc, just spray it on and away you go. Its deep sealing water based formula covers easily and effectively and it is biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

The process for application is simple, just apply approx. 10 - 12" from the material in even amounts and leave to soak into the material. The Oggie Tent Reproofer gives superb protection, not only does it waterproof, it also protects against stains from dirt, grease and oil. 

I found that the Oggie Tent Reproofer was easily applied and because of the trigger applicator made it very easy to get to those hard to reach parts of the tent, my tent is yet to leak since applying the Oggie Tent Reproofer and overall very happy, and dry, with the results.
