It's great to see innovative ideas in the caravan market, so when the
inventor of the BeauEr 3X sent the UKCampsite.co.uk details of his expanding
caravan we were intrigued! The BeauEr 3X is an amazing concept, a caravan
which whilst being towed is only the width and size of a small car, but
which, when on site, expands to three times it's towing size, giving all the
luxuries, comfort, and space of a normal modern caravan. Read on for the details and photos of this fab new caravan, and don't miss the video of it in action, below.
This 8 feet 8 inch long caravan is mounted on an AL-KO chassis and
incorporates two telescopic modules – within a fixed central unit - which
extend like an accordion from 1.80 metres (5.9 feet) to 4.60 metres (15
feet). This provides a staggering 12m² (129 square feet) of living space.
How the BeauEr 3X Came About
French inventor Eric Beau tells us how the caravan came to be : It was
whilst I was enjoying the small caravans of the sixties that the idea came to make a
little caravan in a market that has known no real innovation in years.
But our way of life today requires a minimum of comfort with separate
bedroom, a kitchen and a toilet. So the concept of having a small caravan
on the road, and big caravan with all the amenities on arrival at site, was born
thanks to the telescopic slide assembly of modules. The requirements were:
Easy to install (nothing to assemble or disassemble) to use more
often: Cylinders powered by the battery or mains can open and close
it automatically without any handling or installation. A manual system to
open or close in case of failure is also a feature.
Simple to manufacture: Making use of composite materials such as
polyester to reduce weight and recyclable materials
such as hemp for insulation of the walls.
Modern - to rejuvenate the image of this market: The round shape
is reminiscent of the trendy sixties style, much like the car
with models like the Fiat 500 or Mini. Inside are 3 rooms. The colours white, blue or
taupe add a touch of modernity.
Small on the road for better manoeuvrability but able to accommodate
up to 4 people: The width when folded does not exceed a classic car. The
bedroom and living room when converted into a second large bed can
accommodate up to 4 people.
With this is mind the BeauEr 3X was born. 3X because the original area in the closed position is multiplied by 3 when the caravan is open expanding 4m² to
12m² in less than 20 seconds.
Where can I get them from?
The BeauEr 3X is designed and manufactured in France, and it's inventor is planning for it to go on sale in Europe in 2013. It will be sold through dealers, so please check out their website for updates
The selling price will be fixed around the €24,000 with taxes and without options
(awning, solar panels, heating, bike racks ...)
