Well I had a test drive and a good look at the VW Tiguan today and now I don't know what to do.
The Tiguan is a very very good drive. I drove the sports diesel with the firmer suspension and sports
seats. No roll around corners and is extremely car-like to drive. The engine is very quiet, I had to ask
whether it was actually a diesel I was driving.
It's not as big as a Honda and the interior has a solid, well made feel with all controls close to hand.
One minor niggle was the center arm rest was in the way a touch when operating the electronic handbrake.
It's not a car for a big family but for 2 of us it ticks all the boxes in that it is easy to park, easy to
drive and can tow our current caravan with some room to pull a heavier van in the future.
If I were to ignore costs and just decide on practicality then the Tiguan would win hands down for me.
However when you weigh up the overall costs the Honda CRV seems to have the edge. The Tiguan is cheaper to
buy from the showroom, as long as you don't have the leather seats and too many optional extras, but the
Honda looks like it will be cheaper to run over the long term.
I've put some figures together to try and explain the comparison.

I like the Tiguan very much but I think that my wallet may go with the Honda. I'm test driving the Honda next weekend.
