When you book your sites you will have to check they allow commercial vehicles on as a lot don't.

I'm sure I have seen caravans being towed by the LDV Pilot.

However the LDV Convoy is powerful enough to tow twin axle caravans.

it doesnt matter if they are powerfull or not. its the trainweight of the towing vehicle that is important.and of course your licence. some vehicles have a trainweight up to 4 or more times their own weight some cant pull anything. being legal is very important.

The LDV Convoy has been known to pull stuck vehicles out of muddy fields at Steam rallies.

It has got less power and torque than a 2002 1400cc petrol fiesta.

When did you pass your driving test? Before or after 1997?

no thats about it

2550 grooss veh wt.

3500 trai wt.

1275 front axle

1500 rear axle.

you need to know the weight of yourvan in loaded mode .(what you think you might carry when caravaning. then take that from 3,500kg. thats the most wt you can have as the train. might be nice to know the unladen weight as well then you can experiment. if you load the van to its max 2550 ,you can tow a 950 laden trailer not much.

3500kg train weight is lower than i would have expected.

But seems to tally with the gross vehicle weight of 2550kg

You would need to weigh the van empty or loaded as if going away. If a lot under the 2550 gross allowed you could tow a heavier van providing the manufacturer did not set a lower towing limit.

A mondeo has a higher gross train weight.

possibly if you tell us what it actually says we can make a decision for you .it may be the payload .that is the max you can carry. with out breaking the gross vehicle weight. what you tow does not effect your payload or increase /decrease the train weight allowed. some trailer tents weigh more than some caravans so it might not be the answer. you have to check all weights before making a decision.

It takes a bit of understanding but basically your van plus caravan plus any luggage must not exceed your train weight (3.5 ton).
Your van has a max weight limit of 2550 so you need to allow for the weight of the van itself from this figure and that will tell you how much you can put in the van.(payload)If you load to your maximum van weight (payload plus van weight) then you will have to subtract this from your train weight which gives you your towing weight ( 3.5 ton minus 2.55 ton)
If you don't put anything in the van then you can increase the weight of what you are towing up to your train weight.(3.5 ton minus unladen van weight = maximum weight you can tow) I think. As for power and grip, the one we have for lugging the marquee stuff about in has to have it's neck wrung to get anywhere and spins on a damp leaf but it's cheap and cheerful to own.
