hi there we collect our new (second hand) caravan in the morning and have just thought we might have a problem with our towball

we have a standard towball on our vehicle and need to know if this can be used with the alko hitch i have been looking through the site and found it clear that the tow ball must be squeakey clean but have read that an alko towball is higher and shaped different

thank for taking the time to look at this and any help advise will be greatly appreciated

If you have the alko hitch you will need an alko ball. They have a slightly extended neck, about £20-25 last time I bought one or try ebay

If you turn sharply at the bottom of a steep slope you could destroy the hitch & at £200odd you don't want to be doing that. If you have a Halfords nr you, they normally sell Alko compatable balls or find a caravan shop open in't morning. You will need a long breaker bar, correct sized socket & a spanner to hold other end.

This assumes you have a flange towball. If you have a swan neck you will be ok.

looks like a trip to halfords or towsure in the morning then

Yes and remember to remove all the black paint of your Alko towball or you will contaminate the friction pads

Use brake fluid or wet and dry paper(wet) to remove the paint covering on the new towball.

You need brake CLEANER not brake fluid. Brake fluid will also contaminate the pads.
