I've just had my mum & sister visit for the weekend, they think I'm obsessed, I wanted to take them to GoOutdoors, but they talked me out of it! (I don't think they would understand anyway). But when I dropped them off at the Bristol Ikea (by the motorway) this morning they were pointing out all the stuff in there that would be good for camping! It must've rubbed off on them over the weekend!
I like being obsessed with camping, it's harmless & quite wholesome. There's a lot worse things you could be obsessed with!
Oh yes, BTW, I almost finished off buying all my camping equipment in Ikea this morning, very cheaply I might add. They've got some major bargains in there at the moment. Those plastic wine glasses that are about £15.99 everywhere else are under £5 a set in there!!!!
(yes, I'm definitely OCD as well, oh well, never mind)

Plastic wine glasses Noooo, never.
I just can't bring myself to use them or plastic cups.

I even went and borrowed a proper glass of the caravanners next to us, the one and only time I ever forgot my wineglass. well actually my sis went and asked , after I threatened to drink the wine straight out the bottle

I know what you mean, I refuse to eat from plastic plates, but this forum has persuaded me to buy enamel ware. The trouble is I like to throw my car around corners, so glass may not last long. Previously I had stainless steel goblets, which were very decadent, but I've long since lost those, & they came from a charity shop. I'm keeping my eyes open for alternatives tho. & I've asked for an unbreakable, stainless steel caffatiere (coffee maker), now I really do draw the line at instant coffee, I'd rather have tea!

OCD = Obsessive CAMPING disorder !

Condition:

A healthy and relatively innocent condition that effects normal people which manifesting itself in an uncontrollable desire for camping equipment and the great outdoors.

First indications of the condition, within a sufferer, include the inability to successfully pass a camping store or campsite without sudden loss of control over their body which inevitably results in the sufferer entering said venue with immediate effect.

This is shortly followed by uncontrollable drooling over unnecessary products that somehow appear to be an essential item for the sufferer and a slightly vacant somewhat transfixed appearance resulting in most cases in excessive use of plastic purchasing equipment being utilised.

Also, for an unaffected individual, sudden and uncontrollable outbursts of excitement from a sufferer of OCD can appear to have links with skitzophrenia if a sufferer unexpectedly gains sight of anything that resembles a tent whilst driving through a countryside location. This in normally followed by mumbling sounds including such terms as "Outwell" or "Vango" or other such terms normally followed by a short period of sulking and huffing as they are confined within their current location.

Overview: Harmless to others unless cornered in local pub or at family gatherings.

Ah now you have ICD now this is more serious !

ICD = Insane Camping Disorder !!

The next step on and no known cure ..... I'm sorry your past help and at this stage you will start to hear voices telling you buy the most ridiculous products simply to satisfy your needs ...... go on admit it I bet you have some of those pegs with the small red LED light in them so you don't trip over them ?? Or are they to keep the evil camping spirits away that bring the nasty rain to your pitch

My son has just moved into a rented home, and now has room to get his own equipment.  He was asking about lamps at the weekend, and I wanted to take him to Barretts of Feckenham to look at options.

OH nearly had a fit.  "Let her take you there, mate," he told my son, "and you'll come back with a marquee, three barbecues and a firepit!!  The entire family budget will be up the spout!"

We had to settle for a pint by the river instead...

Which was nice, actually, and easier on the conscience...

But still...

I'm loving it, I used to suffer moderately from the condition & went into remission about 5 years ago, I still can't remember what made me go into remission & I think my mind is trying to block out that dark part of my past.
Needless to say, I have now come back into the light, & the condition has returned in orders of magnitude.
I still have nightmares that some day someone will want to perform all manner of experiments on me to find out what happened 5 years ago, in an attempt to find a cure!
I may have to go into hiding at some point, but at least I now have the equipment to do so!

Ah, you have a trained eye, I see. It is indeed a touring, it's my new toy, & this isn't the first time it's come up on an unrelated thread. I also have a 1985 e28 5 series, my previous car, that I am currently trying to sell, to fund this one.
The 1973 2002 touring is coming to France with me in July, I'm going to be touring with it for a month or so. So I suppose it's not so far from topic after all, as I must be mad!
