I have just walked in from work to hear my wife on the phone, apparently struggling with a conversation. I know that she was going to try and sort out a new tent today, so was more than surprised when she handed me the phone and told me, quite upset, that she was talking to Casey's Outdoor Leisure, who had just told her they refused to sell us a tent 'at any price'. I took the call, and a very angry and abusive lady yelled that she 'did not like my wife's 'tone' and had no tents for sale! When asked, very calmly, to outline the problem, she refused to do so. When asked what price her company would charge for the tent in question, I was told she had no intention of telling me because she would not sell to us.
My wife is entirely shocked and deeply upset and I am bloody angry. There is no way on earth that my wife would have been rude, or abusive, as was the behaviour coming our way from this assistant.
This response is absolutely unbelievable. HOW can an internet seller respond to a buyer in such a manner as this. I thought we had had problems with Aspinalls but this absolutely takes the biscuit.
This is the email which we have just sent to Casey's. It says it all, I hope:
Dear Sir or madam,
I should just like to point out that I am absolutely astonished and deeply upset that your assistant, Helen, has just put the phone down on me whilst I was trying to arrange an order and, when I subsequently rang back to find out what it was all about, I was told that she 'would not sell me a tent'!.
Firstly, I telephoned earlier this afternoon to see if you have in stock a Cabanon Biscaya 500 tent plus sun canopy, and was informed your computers were showing stock, but that you would have to check.. I asked if you could price-match with other suppliers (having been quoted £1200, delivered, by the Norwich Camping) and was told you would ring to confirm the quote and get back to me.
After around half an hour, I telephoned again to see if you also stock Khyam Igloo tents, hoping to add to my order, and was informed that you did not. I was also told that you were still checking to verify that you had the sun canopy in stock, and would get back to me.
After another three quarters of an hour or so (with me sitting by the phone and needing to go and do the school run) I telephoned, apologising for having to press the matter, but asking if things had yet been confirmed, whereupon I was informed,, in a rather nasty manner, that you were not, after all, prepared to match the price. When asked why I had been made to wait whilst you checked stock if you were not prepared to price match in the first place, a very angry Helen informed me that she would not sell me a tent and promptly put the phone down on me!
I immediately telephoned back, and asked what on earth that response had been all about, whereupon a seemingly seething Helen informed me that she was not prepared to sell me a tent at all and that I was unreasonable. I asked her how so, and at what price Caseys are marketing the tent if they are not prepared to price match, whereupon I was told - in no uncertain terms - that the tent is 'not for sale to me at any price'!!!!!
I am, simply, dumbfounded. Helen refused to quantify her apparent anger and animosity towards me.
I was, up until that point, actually thinking how helpful and friendly Caseys were being, and hoping that we could do business. I was also thinking of posting a positive report on ukcampsite.co.uk, where we are members - it is always nice to pass on positive feedback and especially after we have encountered such negativity from another supplier, recently.
I informed this lady that her response and behaviour were deeply shocking, and totally unwarranted, and that I would post on ukcampsite to warn other potential buyers. Angry response was that she would respond and damn me!
I am entirely at a loss to understand this unprovoked and unwarranted situation. I am genuinely sorry if I have been the cause of such vehemently nasty response in your salesperson, Helen, but fail to see how. I was simply seeking to secure a good deal on an (expensive) tent, and with earliest delivery. How we have ended up at this point is astonishing and your comments would be much appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
As this 'Helen' told me that, if my wife reported this on ukcampsite, she would post retaliatory response (I fail to see how she can justify such rude and unprofessional communication), I daresay you will soon hear from them.
This is not a joke. It is a deeply disturbing and unwarranted attack on my wife and myself and it cannot be right.
