Hi All, I was just reading about ice block bandits (sad gits or just illiterate?!) My question is this: Do you leave your camping kitchen etc outside of the tent in full view or is it a case of hiding temptation? It's a few years since we last went camping but had nothing of real value so it was never an issue. Advice please.
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules
I guess if you have a £60.00 stove then I guess it's going to be wise to be tucking them away in the car

I have to admit I put the handbag and dvd player out of sight but general camp equipment i dont. Maybe should . It will be interesting to see who does what.....
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
Items of value should be locked up in the car, I don't think we need to put cookers etc in there to, just keep things tidy and partly out of site if possible. I have never had anything taken before and don't know anyone that has. In the main I think we as campers don't have a thief problem. It can happen as it does everywhere, keep it tidy and keep temptation away. Bolan
I think that there is quite a bit of difference between ice blocks going missing and someone nicking your camping stove.
No one can definitely say that there won't be a thief about but it's extremely unlikely.
not a problem we have, having canvas frame tents we cook in the tent so when we go out everything is "indoors" anyway
If you leave cooking equipment outside the tent then go to somewhere like Asda and get a barbeque cover for it, not likely that it will go missing as there are always eyes on a campsite
The thing that generally reassures me is that campers tend to introduce themselves to neighbours. Now of course you might end up pitched next to a family of thieves, but more like it will be nice folks who will keep an eye out when you are away from your pitch. When I stop thinking that I will probably stop going camping.
I somehow feel happier and more secure on C & CC sites, than on general open to all sites. I have no bad history to arrive here, it is just the feeling I have. We always end up with a vague fellowship, with our neighbours, so I suppose we look out for them, we hope they do for us. We leave all the bikes (up to 10) just propped together, and no one, so far has, taken one.
the first time we ebery went camping, after we were all set up, we went to go after after packing everthing back into the tent, our neighbour said what are you doing it will be fine left out, so with trebadation we left it all out, came back 5hrs later all still there, seems theres an unwritten rule, that you all look out for each others kit when on site, and to this date weve never had a thing stolen or heard of anyone around us havibg anything stolen, maybe weve been lucky? but i think campers are an honset breed
Thankfully i have NEVER had anything stolen from me in 30 odd years of camping...and i must say...it is terrible to read this thread about weather you should put your stuff away or not......what is the world coming too ? there has always been a camping code....keep a look out for your fellow camper's gear !!!

Our bbq folds away and is on wheels (bit like a suitcase), and we used to put this in the awning/porch of tent at night, really to stop it getting all dewy.
Not really an issue for us, we have an ancient Tilley Talisman and a camp kitchen that will never see 30 again lol. If there is anybody out there that loves them please take them when you see them unattended outside our tent.
Been nagging OH for new for years now, his answer "if they still work why do you want new".
We have a cheap Netto stove but expensive Ducdalf chairs and have never put anything away no matter where we were. Nothing has ever gone missing or been moved. Apart from a frying pan that had bacon fat in it and that was 'fiddled' with during the night by something with 4 legs. don't have any expensive camping equipment really so not a lot to worry about. Makes going for a walk or going to bed much more comfortable.
Chairs are usually inside the tent at night to avoid the dew thing first thing as I dont like sitting on wet chairs
