hi

diablo 900 2005 model owner.

i enquired about the kirkwood 900 today at outdoor action concerning the colours ie black/black on there website they said they would presume it was black and black opposed to black silver.

went down to buy one as they are local and they sold me one for £259.

when i got it home impressed with the bag on wheels with separate compartment for poles and sleeping pods.the actual tent is black and mercury like the killington.

my concerns are the pods are separate to the inner,SO DOES IT HAVE AN INNER.or just a flysheet that the pods hang on. i know it has a sewn in groound sheet but having 2 skins on the diablo range makes it warmer i think.

i have the tent but dont want to open it all up because i might send it back i got the outer out  just to look at the colour but

dont know why it posted but i will carry on here

the outer with the inner would take alot of space to fold up so darent.  is there anybody open it up to see if it has an inner aswell as an outer. on info on web it mentions that inner has mesh to reduce build up of condensation. but would like to be reassured.

thanks

martin

I don't know for sure, but wouldn't expect the inner to extend throughout the tent - surely that is only the case on the Diablo because it pitches inner-first? (You couldn't just pitch bedroom inners first, could you?).

There is a thread here Martin, I'm not sure if it answers your question, I've only skimmed through it.

Sounds to me that it is like say the Vango Venture where the poles go in the outer (outer pitch first) and then you hang the inner pods inside so very different to the dual skin inner first pitch of the Diablo.

If you have a look at the images that have been posted of the killington/Kirkwood it looks to me that the inner is complete and that it does indeed hang off the outer. in that respect it is exactly the reverse of the Diablo. I think the only way you are going to find out is either wait for others who have also snapped one up, or just take the inner out and see if it is indeed one piece or if there are separate bedroom pods and a groundsheet.

Or, if this is something which concerns you enough to make you think of returning it, why not ring the retailer and check?

Pretty sure the bedroom inners are suspended from the flysheet, though.

I found and bought a bargain Kirkwood, but haven't put it up or unpacked it yet. Have a look at the Outdoor World website; go to the Killington 400 page, and have a look at the pics there. THere are 2 pics of the bedroom pods - one looks like it hooks completely into the flysheet, and the other looks like it's attached to some kind of inner at the top... Maybe the one which is completely hooked in is removable...?

Hope that helps...

If you read the description on Outdoor action website

External pole sleeves add to the ease of 'pitch' and stability of this geodesic design. It also adds flexibility of sleeping compartments, an exceptionally large living area and an extended porch for protection from the elements. There is an integral sewn-in groundsheet protecting the bedrooms and living areas from drafts.

so sound like you should have a Flysheet, and inner which hangs up in side the tent, and then then hang which ever bedroom pods you like up.

The retailer should know the configuration of the tent, colours vary but the configuration for that model will remain static.

Put it this way I wouldn't buy from a retailer that couldn't tell me this sort of info!

just looked

there are 3 bedroom pods and no inner the outer is an all in one with groundsheet attached.

on websites that have these tents, i got the impression that it was just the same as the diablo range, ie inner plus outer, thats what you pay extra for but its just the outer with bedroom pods hung up. so why is it dearer than the diablo? i appreciate that theres the extra stictching from groundsheet but theres alot less stitching not having to make a complete inner aswell.

going to ring vango on monday and seems like i am going to take it back as i feel im going backward a step in comfort and asphetically pleasing inner ie gaps between the bedroom pods and the outer. i had that with my very first tent, a vango colarado 800 dlx. the diablo creates extra warmth with the inner and outer also found that there is no condensation with the diablo range. cant say there is none but as it forms on the inner of the outer you dont see it plus when it forms and drips it then goes on the inner tent .

hope that clears things up.

martin

Yep, that is usually the way with SIG tents. I have never seen one which has a complete inner tent, unless it is an inner-first pitching style.
