Saw this gazebo flapping about as driving up the campsite into our field and then off it went, smack over into the tent next to it! Luckily it didn't completely detach itself at that point as the next thing in line at that moment was my car!!
The thing that get's me is owner's going out for the day and leaving it up when it's very clear how unstable some of them are! No-one was about to do anything about it so god know's where it eventually ended up!
I'm planning on taking the pop-up gazebo when I camp with friends in a couple of weeks time, to give us a bit of shelter in between our tents where we can sit out in the evenings but I'll only put it up if its not too windy. I'd already decided that I'd take it down if we weren't there during the day, so that photo has confirmed that for me!

just as bad in back gardens too I'm afraid to confirm.
We put our up in our back garden, so OH could do some DIY under it. Our garden is only small and the gazebo is almost the same width as it. Garden is about twice as long as gazebo. We also have five foot fences on both sides and a garages at the bottom. SO you'd think it would be pretty difficult for it to escape.
WRONG.... it not only went over our five foot fence, but also went over two more to end up in garden 3 doors down.
We hadn't secured it but we really thought there was no way it would get up and over the fences in such a small space!!! must've literally taken off striaght up!!!

Campers do it in the mud!
Hubby says we can't camp as much this yr mmm we'll see!!
camped in 2009= 27nights
Booked for 2010 = 30 nights.
After reading on here how dangerous gazebos are I was really surprised to see dozens of them when we camped at the Forest Holidays site in the Forest of Dean recently. It was really really windy one evening/night and people still didn't take them down! Unsurprisingly, there was a nice pile of broken poles by the bin the next day.
Didn't stop me having a sleepless night wondering if a gazebo was about to land on my head........
Problem is Gazebos are usually made to a budget and sold by supermarkets and garden centres for........ gardens !! they are NOT designed for camping !
If you want a Gazebo equivalent then buy a proper day room that IS acctually designed for camping ! and before all the "we can use what we want" brigade come on here and start bleating away'......... - well acctually NO you cant... you need to consider the other campers around you and the risks involved !
£ 30 quid from tesco is great in your garden - but if your going to pitch in public with all the associated risks - then you need to spend some money !!
To date I have only seen the Outwell one - Im sure there are many more !
they're not even safe in the garden Trust me I know. I'd never use one on a site

i have lost 3 gazebo's in the garden ...... this is poor lazyness of not taking it down....... i would use one on a campsite as i have in brandy wharf when a gang of us went camping in 2 man tents and we needed somewere to doss ............... but i would never leave one up again on its own unattended!!!!!
------------- A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

If they are fastened down right then you shouldnt have a problem,we have never had a problem with any of our gazabos but only use the pop ones with rachet straps and dog screws and allways put pegs in the feet too.
its a bit like having a tent and not using the guide ropes .
Gazebo's are not good, my Dad has had several fly away in winds, even my childrens 12' trampoline can fly in a good wind!!! (and smash down fences on its way)
They're not waterproof either as far as im aware, I Dont really see the point in taking them camping. Its hardly a shelter if it starts bucketing down and the occupants or contents get soaked - something I witnessed last week whilst camping. I've also seen a few on my travels landing on top of caravans, cars, tents, people etc. Whether pegged down or not. the materials that most of them are made of is cheapo and rips easily - the legs are also easily buckled, so in high winds they just break then fly away. I dont even use the one we have, its been in the cupboard since we bought it 4 years ago.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
As i mentioned on here a few months ago, one blew over from next doors garden in high winds!!! Blew over the fence straight towards my new tent (which i was test pitching) on the lawn... Managed to jump in the way of it before it hit my tent. Parts of the thin metal frame had buckled and snapped making the pole very sharp and very dangerous!!!
Catching them isn't easy either... grab them and they'll try and take you with them!!!
I notice a lot of gazebos at festivals and at the recent Trowbridge festival we saw one sailing off like Mary Poppins, intent (pun!) on destroying as many other tents and cars as possible - it was caught in time but I would not be happy if my lovely tent or car were to be damaged by one not being tethered sufficiently.

I can definitely recommend the Outwell Oklahoma day tent in the link that Simon W posted. It's really stable, even in windy conditons and great quality. Clearly more expensive than a garden gazebo but worth every penny.
