Hi, have been looking at the coir matting for the 5m bell tent, am concerned about how small it rolls - does anyone have this and can advise?

Went away last weekend and used rag rugs from Ikea but even with quite a few they didn't cover all the floor and they moved around quite a lot.

What do other bell tent users use?

Thank you x

i got 2 reduced outwell carpets and stitched them together to make a 5m circle

cost £70, but I had enough left for the main tent in the barbados as well

Waiting for the sales to buy end of line tent carpet! until then, picnic blankets from Aldi(nice colour, turquoise and yellow tartan pattern) and multi-stripe rag rug.

Thought the coir carpet sounded a bit rough on bare feet and quite bulky.

Best wishes Sam

Gina, we bought a heavy coir mat for our 5m Ultimate last year. It fills the front half of the tent, and we had the inner in the back half. It's a great rug, but it's also very thick and so very heavy and bulky when folded. Can just see it in this pic. It's really nice, and although it's coir it is actually very comfortable to walk and sit on. It now covers the floor in our hallway, and I just chuck a few of the rag rugs in now, just because they're lighter and the kids can carry them.

I use a three piece coir mat for mine.  It cost a little more but it's more managable to pack.  I use rag rugs on top of that; they're ideal as they pack so small and they're easy to wash.  I bought mine here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Priya-Perfection. Great value at £12 a pop...although I just checked and that store is closed until the end of August.  You definitely need rugs on top of the matting, or you will experience unnecessarily itchy arse issues if you sit on the coir...

Where did you get a 3 piece mat from? or did you make it yourself?

I have found some rag rugs on ebay that I think I will go for but am interested in having coir mat too!

I had the 3-piece matting made.  It was a little more expensive than two halves, but I like it better, for packing.  Rag rugs: check out my previous link.  £12 each in an eBay shop if you can wait till late August.  Most of them on eBay are £20+.  DjNewton is spot on - they're great - you can chuck them in the washing machine.

Pete Mills
I like the look of the stripy coir matting, can you remember where it was from? Thank you :)

I prefere square/rectangular rugs, as they lay flat in the bottom of the trailer, and take up very little space.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Talking to Sally at Longthornes campsite, she was saying they used coir matting in the tipis and it was pretty hopeless

Bulky, trapped the dirt and showed every stain

She wanted to rob my rug

I went into the bell tents at the belltent stand at Windsor this year and they had the coir matting in them. I took my shoes off before I went in them and found the flooring really uncomfortable.

Felt the same as standing barefoot on a coir doormat. All very prickly and not nice at all.

I have rugs and I'm looking for a carpet for my bell tent but think I will have to make one (and hide all my mistakes )
