with camping being mostly a summer time thing ( I know there are winter campers) how many times do you try and get away?

We always try and go for 4-6 days over Easter, then at least a week during the summer months. If we don't go abroad for a week or 2 we will go for another week in September. So 2-3 weeks per year.

We try to get away for at least one ten day break and then as many weekends as we can. We have even been known to pitch at a campsite just down the road when I'm bogged down with exam preparation at school - being in my tent has a way of soothing away stress!

I've had three weekends away throughout the spring and just had a fortnight for our 'main hols'. I hope to get another weekend or two over August and then one already booked for the end of September. After than, it'll depend on the weather.

My sig is my list of trips done this year and booked-but-yet-to-happen ones. Debating whether to go again this weekend, as itll be last chance til September to go to our new favourite site, but its local to where we have to be most Saturday mornings, so we intend to do most weekends there until the weather stops us. Im hoping to be still able to plan something for October half term, but we shall see.

in the space of a year we usually manage to fit in one 2 week trip, a couple of 10 day trips and as many weekend trips as humanly possible...

About 4 or 5 times in a year, including one over Christmas/New Year if I can get the time off, usually 5 to 6 nights each.

Since April last year I have been away once a month(sometimes twice) for long weekends...7 night camp coming up 1st week in August(main holiday) Hopefully a weekend break later in August...Then once a month for the rest of the year...Must cut back on the camping...as other hobbies/pastimes are suffering...Mainly the fishing...Only been twice this year...

A good time to tally up, as we have recently completed our very first 12 months....

Off the top of my head, we have had 1 x 12nights, 1 x 3 nights, and about 10 x 2 nights.
We set out with the informal intention to try and camp each month, but failed to get away in January and May (We had "main" holiday in May (non-camping). (We also cheated, and got Nov/Dec in at the same time, going on the last day of Nov, coming back on the 2nd!) :-)
Some months of course, we have got away more than once.
We have known from the start that the majority of our trips will be 2 nighters, but being on the doorstep to The Peak District, I think we're lucky in that sense!!

If we can carry on at that sort of pace, I'll be absolutely delighted.

So far this year I've managed 24 nights camping. By the end of this week that should have risen to 29. I try to go at least once a month but if the weather is nice we might do a quick overnighter with minimum kit. Me and the kids like to camp all year round and enjoy the quiet campsites out of season. My signature shows all the sites visited so far this year.

Scrunchkins,
These "quick overnighters"..... Are they worth it? As in, do you use sites that allow you to arrive before noon, and leave later in the day/evening, rather than expecting you to be gone by noon? And more to the point, do you actually take advantage of these "more generous" sites?

I'd love to just go off for one night, but it's such a lot of faffing about just to set up, sit and chill for a few hours, then bed, and pack up again next morning. And I seriously doubt we are ready to go minimalist, just yet!!

I think they're worth it Mucker and I know the kids do. I don't always go for sites that allow you on early or stay later. Sometimes we pack up straight after breakfast but for the kids the excitement of setting up and sleeping in the tent is enough for now.

I must admit to struggling to go minimalist at first but now I can be packed and on the road in 15 minutes.
