well there was only 1 winner in this one and that was the weather, heavy rain, gale force winds it was miserable. Bailed out 1st thing this morning after trying to grab a few zzzzz in the car. (brenda I did get my chair and mug out of your tent) apologies for not saying goodbye to everyone but I just wanted to get to hell out of there, drive back was a nightmare with heavy rain and more high winds. sorry we never did the quiz or anything but I think we all understand, that can keep for Dollar along with the pink
respect to all that survived the night and I hope you all make it home in one piece and your kit isnt too badly damaged (I have one split pole section which I regard to be a result)
Like Alan i have one split pole. Oh and Alan don't worry about not saying goodbye I was up 3 times during the night fixing guy ropes I would not have appreciated being woken up.By the way it's a beautiful sunny day up here and has been all weekend.
The journey home was nice to sun came out when we reached Sterling.
I dont think Claire Robinson turned up at all, the swift motorhome opposte Brenda was Al and bobbie think they were okay.
Brenda glad you and shaunie survived the night I was thinking about you as it was very blowy overnight and i reckon I did the right thing staying in the car was a bit cramped but managed to get some kip, really amazed my tent survived at all
I stopped and got fed at stirling lovely cooked veggie breakfast and a mug of steaming hot tea, bliss. got home and went to my bed for a couple of hours. sorted out most of my gear now
did take a couple of photos from the car showing the height of the storm will upload them sometime
well that was my 1st meet as a host, hope my 2nd one at dollar goes a bit better :-)
I too am home safe and well. After a late lunch, I fell asleep on the chair under a wet dug <G>.
I did have problems with the new van due to rain leaking through the seam around the skylight, but I have emailed the manufacturers and we will see what developes. In the meantime the dehumidifier is going full tilt to dry out the bedding, carpets and cushions.
I reckon it will take the best part of the coming week to dry everything out and I am hoping to get a sunny and breezy day to get the awning dried too.
This weekend, for me, was also the new van's shake down and as such I discovered one major fault and 10 minor ones. When these are all sorted, I will have a unit that will withstand the very worst of weather conditions and so, despite being a washout this weekend did a good job of the shake down. Far better to find these faults 60 miles from home than to find them 600 miles from home.
Now I am 3 hours away from a dry, non shaking bed. Oh boy but I canny wait
Oh dear - sounds like a real nightmare! Never mind I'm sure the next one will be soooooo much better! Well done all who made the effort and braved the storms.
I honestly reckon it would have been a good meet if it hadnt been for the weather, will certainly try again next year, possibly in the same area as it is pretty central scotland.
Hi Alan, Auchterarder Caravan Park has both a Rally Field and a Clubhouse for use of clubs using the Rally Field. An ideal set up in inclement weather.
Auchterarder is only another 7 miles for you compared to Immervoulin and, being so close to Perth, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area.
I have often thought that it would be an ideal spot for a UKCS Meet and it is truly Central.
I have spent the morning at the local boatyard's store getting the primers and sealant to do "a proper job" on the caravan rooflight. The bloomin' roof will blow away before that rooflight moves again.
In the meantime, the dehumidifier is drying the bedding and the interior. Almost 2 litres have come out already. Also the awning is up on the back lawn and will be dry by teatime.
Maybe we should organise a Wet Meet. That way we will only be disapointed if it is dry and sunny all weekend.
Mike, that site at auchterarder looks good will bear it in mind for next year's meet
a wet meet I can live with but wet and windy no thanks
glad you have your wee van back on the mend, lovely van that, well kitted out. think once I am making a bit of ££££ I might move over to the darkside and buy a tintent
I am really glad i didnt do the 4.5 hr drive to be sat on my todd in a field abandoned by everyone lolol
Because if Id drove that far I would not move even for gale force winds
My delta's would have gone in and there I would have stayed...
Think the tent would have gone before them ground anchours move, Im getting sed to high winds whilst camping after sending so much time at Red bank farm this year lolol
but dont you hate it when your lay in bed thinking Id better put some pants on in case my tent blows away and would i stay in this bed pod if it did ...?
Daisy it was a blessing you pulled out (was it your 2nd sight that told you) a bit of wind i can handle (used to it at Knockhill) bit of rain no probs but the 2 together no chance
Actually we survived it better than some. The 6 young lads in three tents just along from us had all their tents blown away and they slept the night in the Gents Toilet.
