It could be the cold inlet. These have a non-return valve built into them, which could be blocked.

They can take a fair while to fill up, but they are very basic inside, just an inlet at the bottom & an outlet at the top. Not much to go wrong there really.

The inlet valves have changed a bit over the years, but the newer ones will fit straight onto the older tanks.

be careful when removing it though. It's best to take the heater out completely to get a good swing at it. The plastic threads can have a habit of breaking off inside, which are then very difficult to remove.

remove drain off bung on outside of van bottom L/H corner switch on pump water should now pump out? if so water is filling the tank.

replace drain off bung now with the pump running re move top hose if no water is  coming out the non return valve is stuck

there are non return valves on inlet and outlet if removing any take care that they do not snap inside the heater

Gary may be more helpful

There's no valve on the outlet. It's just a straight outlet.
As far as I'm aware, at least that's how mine is.

Also, the drain plug is positioned after the cold water inlet. So, if this is removed with the pump on, & water flows out, then the inlet valve will indeed be working.

Good idea though, I never thought about taking the drain plug out to see if it's filling.

possible this time of year your non-return valve is stuck.cold water runs ok but no supply to the hot taps.also means no water is going into your water heater tank because it is not getting through.to check fill all barrel with water add the pump as normal.remove the drain plug outside.get someone to switch on the pump at the switch for 30 seconds.if water is gushing out then the non return valve is ok.if only a slight water loss the non return is stuck.i cured mine by using a 12 inch water colour brush inserted into the drain hole very gently.get someone to switch the pump on again 30 seconds before doing this.only prod gently as you are only trying to dislodge the valve.if you are lucky water will gush out and get you wet.switch off pump and refit the drain plug.this site will tell you how to replace a non return valve.

Hello, I have a hot water problem. I bought the caravan 1996 Coachman Mirage last September. Cascade water system looks like the one on the link above. The hot water was working last September using the emersion heater. I drained the system for the winter and filled it today. Only cold water from the hot taps. The emersion heater light comes on. The gas switch is showing green as it should. I have left them on for a while to give them a chance to heat up no joy? I have tried the drain plug thing above and the wter spurts out. Any ideas please.

Fred.

I have looked at that and read the whole thing. It says if water is running from both taps (it is) the tank is full? If the green light is on there might be a loose wire. I can't see any loose connections so the gas side might be knacked? I have found a small reset switch at the emersion heater end and pressed it and will try it tomorrow. I have sent a message to 'Arc systems' to see what he says.

Thank you for the reply, Fred.

Yes, it is in very good condition, showing the correct readings. I tested the gas heater/fire today (not the water) and it sparked and lit up fine.

it does take quite some time to get hot about 25-  35 minutes.it gets to 70 and then maintains this temperature.
