Hi,
Here are images of our brand new Outwell Montana 12.
Quality?
http://www.zorck.dk/tent/Montana12/
1. Leaking . and no, it is NOT condensation, we didnt sleep in it.
2. It rained about 2 mm that night....
3. Poles, 1 pole bent
4. Roofbars - 1 roofbar bent
5. Corners - 1 corner stiched a bit askew.
Poles was 2007 poles, tent was 2006 tent. Quality inspector: Li.
Everything goes back to dealer, who will return it to Outwell - and then wait and see.
I might write a letter, quoting some of the quality issues from this forum,
IN the meantime - SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best regards
Jens Jakob

Hi,
Some people are lucky - you can be lucky too :-)
1. You can unpack the poles, connect them, and check they all are straight.
2. If you have space for it, you can unpack tent, check the corners stitching
3. Better get it up soon, check it out.
We hosed ours first, very carefully. Nothing happened. It was the night-rain that got it. My gues is that water seeps in through the stitching somwhow, so it is duration of exposure to water that determines leakage, not just the intensity of the water.
All the best wishes to you

Sorry to hear of your problems.
Unless you find a leak, it may still be condensation. There is water vapour in the air any way, wether the tent is empty or full. (more = higher humidity, less = lower humidity,) so as the temperature dropped, this could condense on the relatively cool tent material. (Which cools further if it's rained on, as the rain water is cooler than the ground level air.) Even after a night of no rain at all, you can find if you wipe your hand across the inner tent roof, you'll find it damp. I will evaporate again as the temperature increases, so it can look like a leak. If it's dripped or rolled into a puddle, it takes longer to evaporate again.
Good luck with the return though, it's not the only issue you've got with it.

Hi,
In Denmark there are 24 months warranty, think 6 month is return-right, the 18months thereafter are guarantee-calling right.
Checlk it out - as Outwell is produced in Denmark?

Hi Tony
Condensation. Well, yes, I agree in theory.
But a 28 m2 tent, empty of people, all vent openings open. No sign of condensation on the inside - except the pools on the floor. And no the sun had not burned through the clouds yet -so tent was same temperature inside as outside air.
So I doubt condensation - but yes, could in theory be.
But how do I ever test for leaks - unless I am inside the tent in heavy rain, that lasts more than 30 minutes or so (guess it takes a while before seeping throu the seams begins to do its work).
Best regards
Jens Jakob

at Paul Lynn:
Please explain the bit about the size of the tent and the amoint of water?
We expect the tent to be watertight. I mean,it was about 1,5 mm of rain over 3 hours of the night/morning.
How much water would leak if it was a proper rain-storm?
On the other side - we dont want to be just arguing...
And then again , besides leaks, there are the poles, as well as the stiching of the corner.
But back to the leaks - a new tent should not leak - should not....
Best regards

Personally I'd never consider a tent water tight, even bricks and mortar can spring a leak, but I'd always hope and pray it was.
Its a big tent so catches a lot of rain, its hard to get them drum tight, there are places where water gathers and maybe this will seep through.
As I said its fair enough that you would expect none but with the amount of stitching on a tent the size of a Monty 12 I would've thought there may be a good chance of a seam leaking, if I remember correctly the only tent we have bought that included seam sealer in the packaging was a Monty 4, I think that fact speaks for itself.
Trust me I'm not arguing, have had 5 tents from Outwell, had problems and returned 3 of them, it hasn't put us off the brand but as others have said, it would appear to be pot luck whether you get a good un or a duff un.

Hi
Tent got returned today - vendor looked at our list of "issues" and said immediately "Do you want a new one straight away?"
As I have talked with Outwell Denmark, I said "please ship it to Outwell".
We look forward to see what Outwell says, hopefully we get a new one.
And to Tar-paullynn , well, a large tent of a budget brand I would never worry about a bit of leaks from, but a HH5000 tent - well, if you brand a tent HH5000, then it carries some obligations.
Best regards
Jens Jakob
