I am looking to upgrade to a tent with full SIG for the living area; though I am aware that claiming that this is an upgrade is contentious!  I am very tempted by the Vango Orchy but there is one thing that puts me off.

The drop-down groundsheet at the door may help prevent children and drunken adults tripping up as they enter/leave the tent, but when they are raised they do not appear to be actually sealed/joined to the tent door by zip or velcro when the door is closed; the door merely overlaps.

My concern is that the reason I want a full SIG is to keep the midges out in the evening; do the little buggers actually find their way into the living area through this admittedly restricted and convoluted route?

Any anecdotes or other advice would be gratefully received, especially as No 1 son is reluctant to put put up with the daily dusk plague that we experienced last summer - or that wet, cold period of time that passed for summer!

We have the Sumatra which is the polycotton version of the Orchy 600 and wonder the same thing. We don't plan on using the tent until Easter but test erected it the other day. It does come up high on the inside and there is a wide mud flap on the outside of the door. I don't know if this will make a difference.

I have to say, we had an Outwell with sig and the side doors were open at the bottom and just fixed with some velcro. We never had problems with that and I suppose you could easily fix some velcro on and have the same.

Thank you for the replies.

Febe3 - if I recall correctly, the doors for the Diablo are different to the Orchy's; don't to zips to the inner tent fasten all the way round and thus create a seal from bugs, etc?

I'll just bump this one more time in case any one out there has experience of the type of door on the Vango Orchy.  The Zambezi and other Vango tents have similar doors.  Do these doors keep the midges out?

Yes, the doors do zip all the way round...so did the ones on our old (very cheap) I thought all inner tent doors did!!  Haven't noticed any bugs inside the tent main chamber, but again the inner door and fly screen fasten up and we keep the flyscreen door fastened (except obviously when nipping in and out of tent!)  For me the sound of zips unfastening and fastnening IS the true sound of camping!!!!
