Hi chjo,

Given what happened to Icarus it's a funny name for a tent.

Just new this year I believe - not even on the review page yet. Looks a sound tent though - go on, be first!

I have just ordered one from my daughters work plus footprint and canopy with door so I will get her discount    was going to get the Aztec hawk but I think they might be discontinued this year well where I was ordering it from said they won't have them in again could have got it on ebay but they wanted £40 pounds more for postage than mainland Britain, anyway I liked the look of the Icarus 500 for the head room throughout and being a tunnel tent easy to put up on your own, cant be walking around on my knees any more with arthritis but wont give in to that. I'm planing to get away any good weekends all summer with my two dogs I go for three weeks with OH for three weeks in July but he wont hear of going again that year. Hope its going to be all right l like the SAG to keep the dogs in will try it out in the park first before I go away. cheers all

I have seen it pitched and was really impressed with the amount of headroom all the way through the tent, plus it's extremely light and airy. The SIG is a bonus and it looks very easy to erect with all the poles the same size. Only thing is, it's a 2000hh not 3000hh for some reason. Is that good enough in this country I wonder? No doubt someone far more experienced will be able to give us the benefit of their wisdom as I would be unsure. All my tents are 3000hh.

I saw the icarus pitched at springfield camping and it looked very good with excellent storage etc. but pitched alongside was the Tigris400 and I must admit the sturdier poles of the Tigris swung it for me but still the icarus is advertised as a "weekend" tent.

The sleeping area is smaller though in height. The Vango Albany is like that too. Not being tall I can cope but prefer the light airy feel of the Icarus sleeping pod. There are so many things to look out for when buying tents, I can never remember them all.

the icarus seemed a nice tent, ideal as a weekend tent for a small family, or a longer stay for a couple. we saw it pitched at Winfields at Haslinden last Sunday.

I'm still wanting to see on in the 'flesh' so to speak .

I was worried about the HH being only 2000 , but then I found out my Vango Gammas are the same , and they've never leaked or let me down and we've had them a few years now , and they have been through some right weather

There you go then Lurcher Pie. I am sure that when you see it you will be well impressed by how roomy it is. Yeoman's have one pitched in their tent displays that they are holding throughout the UK, so you will be able to see one there if there is one near to you. Lots of discussion on the Forum about the different hydrostatic heads and plenty of advice been given on here about it too.

I had a look at an Icarus quite recently and my feelings were the same as yours, mantrachant; this looks a very easy to pitch tent, esp with all poles the same length, and with good headroom throughout. I was impressed with it.

2000HH should be fine for UK use. As has been said a zillion times before, it's not just the HH that's important on a synthetic tent, water is more likely to find its way in through seams and window panels etc than through the fabric itself. Vango is a well-known and respected make, and their warranty and after-sales reputation is good (esp according to these boards) so I reckon this will be a popular little tent this season.

Hey, congratulations on your new tent and please don't forget to post a review and pics, it's always useful (and interesting) to hear of first-hand experience of a new tent model.

We've got the 400 model and have used it for a long weekend. It's very easy to put up as it's three identical poles and an all-in-one pitch. You can stand up in it but taller people will have to crouch!
It's a robust design having stood up to some strong winds. However, it did leak along the seam at the top where the front and rear panels meet. This is probably the point of maximum stress.
I'm currently in the process of trying to get a new tent as I think the problem was due to a manufacturing fault.
Other than that I'd say it's a good design except for the front door - it flaps in the wind at the bottom. I think I'll put a piece of velcro on it.
