Following on from this thread thought I'd start this one to see how many others own a Trio tent, and to see what other information we could find/share.

Pics will be a great help too

So, here's mine:

According to the Ebay ad when we bought it, it was made in 1990's and if the label on one of the bags is anything to go by, then it is a Home 7 model:

From the colours and design I would put it more into the 80's than the 90's. I never had a Trio tent but I have had 3 Trio caravan awnings which were all well made and have lasted extremely well despite the best endeavours of the British weather and my use of them all year round.

It might be worth getting the stitching checked as that tends to be the first thing to start to fray as they use cotton to expand when damp and seal the sowing holes.

I am a Trio owner, my tent must be about 40 years old! The previous owner couldn't tell me, because he bought it second hand too. No label on it, but it still had a little control tag from Trio attached to it, which looks really antique. It is 4 berth, about 3.20 m x 4 m, and 2.10 m high, and a ground plan like modern tunnel tents, with the door in one end and the sleeping pod (orange giraf skin pattern!) in the other.
Still haven't found out how to upload pictures on a thread, but you can see a little photo of the tent on my profile. It was only a test pitch in the bicycle cellar. It is totally retro - even with fringes over the door!

Looks like the stitching is still o.k. Only one fastener for a guy line to repair, and there is a patch at the edge of the fringes, and the colour of the roof has become a bit pale because of the sun.A little bit corrosion on one pole - that's all so far.It is definitely a tent that has been cared for.
We will have the tent out for the first time this weekend, I am so excited! Gave only 30 pound for it at a car boot sale, retro tents have not become the fashion yet here in Denmark, so I expect some looks at the camp site...

I could not find anything on the internet apart from that in the sixties Trio tents seemed to be the only tents seen on Danish camp sites - they were extremely popular. Very few photos on Google, and not of my tent type.
Now they only produce caravan awnings.

I am considering to contact the company and tell them about our interest in Trio tents history, I might get some information there I could share with you!

I would also say that your tent, Eel28, is more 80's. I remember having seen those colours on tents when I was camping first time in the mid 80's.

Ooooo 80's could be likely,  the previous owner was a bit sketchy with details like that, as he too had bought it 2nd (at least) hand.

Any information you might get as a reply Pingvin I would be interested in.  Probably best you do the contacting, rather than me, as my knowledge of things Danish stretches about as far as bacon

I do like the colours and style of your tent doubt if the Mrs would have gone for one in those colours though   as one of the things she liked about ours before we bought it, was its subdued colour scheme.

Just popped in here while packing the last things in the car - we have a bank holiday here and have to make the best of the first 3 days, because the weather forecast says thunderstorm on Sunday, so we better leave for home on Saturday already.
I expect to draw some attention at the camp site, you're right, the colours are... amazing. My kids and I are looking forward to having some colourfull dreams in that sleeping pod with the orange pattern!
I think next week I will try to phone Trio. They might have a company archive (I hope), and wouldn't it be wonderful PR for them to have their tent history told on a big forum like this (I hope this will make them cooperative...)
Yout tent looks enormous, how many does it sleep? And I like to see some Danish on the tag - the Danish word for "silversand" translates "pearl grey". So now you have learned your first Danish word!

Hope you have a great trip in your tent Pengvin, ours isn't due out till middle of next month for a local weekend to be pitched amongst a few caravans.

According to the previous owner its a 6 birth, but reading the label, it might be a 7!  The bedroom bit stretches right across the back of the tent, with two 'curtains' which can be hung to section it off - should know a bit more once we get it up, all properly pegged down and use it.  The photo above was taken when we test pitched it, to make sure it was all there.

So now I've learned to upload pictures from Picasa.

This is "Giraffen" (the giraf), as we call her by obvious reasons. Sadly the zipper broke after two days - but the rest of her is perfect! Very windy the last day, but she stood like a rock. We decided to stay until Sunday and managed to pack up one hour before the thunderstorms started, so we haven't tested yet if she is waterproof...
So now I have to find a loooong zipper - or some alternative solution.

Haven't phoned Trio yet, too busy at work!

Ah, Pingvin, she looks lovely   You really need to find out if she's waterproof before your next trip   If she's been stored away for a long time she may need a good soaking to make the fibres close up again. Pitch her in your own/relatives/friends/neighbours garden and hose her thoroughly, then let her dry completely before packing her away. It helps if you can get some fool, sorry, kind friend to stand inside the tent while you hose it, to tell you whether a fine mist of water comes through.

A new zip shouldn't be hard to find, do a google search for tent spares. If you can get a YKK zip, it will certainly last the tent out.

Well I had a search on the net for Trio's address or phone number and found out that they don't exsist in Denmark anymore! Called TrioSport now (still doing caravan awnings), and they seem to have been bought by a Dutch company.
So I think I can forget all about having a nice chat with them about their company archives...
I will try if I can get some information and help on a Danish camping forum. There must be SOMEONE out there who has/had a Trio tent!

Almost every google search relating to Trio tents that I did, came up with Trio Sports, which have the same logo.

Didn't realise they were now Dutch though!  Hopefully your Danish camping forum will turn up some more info for us

I had a look at different Danish camping fora, but it seems they're mostly about caravanning! All about Trio was about caravan awnings, and they hardly have anything about tent camping in general - amazing considering that Outwell is Danish! Nothing at all about older /retro tents.

You're right, eel28!

I am just repairing my Trio, after the zipper had gone. Trying to find a long zipper in Denmark was impossible unless I wanted to pay for repair too, and the cheapest way was having sent it from Germany, but the shipping would be more expensive than the zipper...
So I found 2 nice 80 cm YKK zippers (red!)and have worked out that one from up, one from down and then a toggle and a protecting flap in the middle will do the job until I will find a long zipper for a reasonable price. Might have one ordered in UK and sent to my friend in Sheffield - I will visit her in July.

I don't think I will get the repair work finished until friday, when I will go for three days camping without the kids (have tried - it is possible to pitch the tent solo!). So I will take my nylon bell tent.

Here's the tent with damaged zipper... We had to hang a sheet over the gap for the night and were lucky it wasn't raining!

Hi

Well I am a soon to be owner of a Trio. It is described as a 3-4 person and very reto, brown and orange . Picking it up on Friday, just hope I can erect it myself, as got this to go away with just myself and my dog.

Excited and can't wait to collect it. Oh and it has a sun canopy ooooo very posh
