Now I know you can't cook in a tent with a naked flame and one should cook outside but the lovely British weather has a habit of raining at the wrong time.

So where does one cook as it seems extensions are not fire proof also why can you cook in a trailer tent awning but not a tent is the material different

I have always cooked in the tent as i have a 6ft height, as long as you don't cook next to the sides of tent it should be fine.

For me it depends, either under the tarp or in the tent.  In my own reasoning cooking in the extension is exactly the same as in the tent, as its attached to the tent.  Some here will have a utilities tent to cook in away from main tent.

I use a cabanon cook tent come rain or shine

That is the exactly the same as my tent but it is a better photo that the one i have

it is a tent made by cabanon as a kitchen tent it is all plastic coated canvas so it is all wipe down and it has a window at the back that can be opened for ventilation

the one downside is they are very hard to find

but i would look at some form of kitchen tent or cook tent that takes the cooking away from the main tent

up until this year we've allways cooked under a tarp that my husband has pitched to perfection, bless him! but since getting our new tent this year that has plenty of room/height to it we now cook inside the tent, though its not the most pc way of cooking we allways have the tent well vented, the dogs tied up well away from it and we make sure we are properly pegged down outside and the cooker stand weighted down properly in case of it being a tad windy!

the above is for brekkie and lunches but in the eve we'll get a good fire going and put our old bbq grate over the top to cook on! (though i'm working on chris to let me buy a dutch oven/trypod)

What are the measurements of this cook tent? Surely by having two tents you will be charged two pitch fees ?

Hi camping100

It's around 2.1m x 1.5m which is  smaller that the 2mtr sq pop up gazebo i was originally going to use, some utility/day tents are ever larger than that. The campsite we are going to in Auguest said  "Most people just cook outside their tents or put up a gazebo (no charge).  We have a lot of windbreaks too.  It all depends on the weather!". Also read on this site some campsites were banning Gazebo's because some people did'nt peg them down correctly, think someone said they did'nt need a lot of wind to get then airborne. When they came back to earth they can do a lot of damage to tents, cars and people . Think someone discribed tham as a kite with four metal legs . The Cabanon NR7 kitchen tent i picked up Saturday is really stable, we had it up in the garden with no pegs while i was checking it out and it was quite blustery. That's the reason we wanted one, we don't want to cook in our tent or have to clean up every time the weather turned bad. We was looking for a utility tent that would stay put. Thanks again force ten.

Steven

The tent is 210cms wide by 140cm deep and is standing height

I have never been charged extra for pitching it and as long as it is within the confines of your pitch then you will not be charged for two pitches

some sites will charge extra for a utility tent or a cook ten but i tend to avoid sites that charge for each additional item that you have on the pitch

I would put up the canopy of my Khyam 4-pole canopied windbreak over the kitchen stand and cook under it.

I am only 5'2 so I am able to stand up straight without hunching my back.

I only had toasts this morning and made them in the mist as I could not be bothered to put the canopy up just for 2 slices of toast.

I was due to have a BBQ (cancelled due to the rain) with friends at 16:00h, and we went to a Harvester up the road from the campsite instead.

Hence I only had a light breakfast. Otherwise I would have put the canopy up for the fry up.

Trailer tents are nearly always made of canvas. We cook in our canvas frame tents, but it's far more risky to cook in a synthetic tent.

I used to just get wet - or try and cook and hold an umbrella at the same time. I'd rather be wet than risk have my tent go up in flames.

I then used to cook under the canopy on my windbreak which worked really well.

This year I have invested in a seperate utility tent.
