We (me, my wife and 3 children) have just returned from a weekend in a cheap argos tent and despite the leaks had a great time. I returned the tent and got a refund and I would appreciate some advice on a replacement.

My criteria is as follows:

1. £300 max

2. 6 person (or more)

3. Able to stand in living area

4. Porch area (or extension) for cooking

5. Waterproof (3 seasons)

Thanks in advance.

Hi Preston I would have to say a Khyam Kansas/Ontario 8  would fit the bill

Height throughout of 225cm

layout of a four (which can be divided) and two two bedrooms on either side of door.

HH of 5000

and a price of only £189.99

if you add on the sun porch  you will have more than enough room to cook and store all your stuff.

We have the 6 man version and it is more than big enough for the 4 of us

I'd second the Hartford.  We have the L but you'd need the XL.

Loads of room, big bedrooms, light inside, easy to pitch, good head height.  Good prices around just now.

We also are a family of three and are trying out the outwell nevada xl with side extension this weekend. We got ours for much less than 300 with free carpet from winfields i think. Also has mesh doors which were essential for us as our 3 year old is paranoid about flying insects!

would you recommend a trip out near end of October with a Hartford? Would a Khyam do the trip better?

We have the Ontario 8 great tent loads of room, for me,mrs and kids 14,11,8.

And especially as the 2 eldest are girl's who love their own SPACE.

One little detail to add is that although the tent is advertised as a 3 berth it has got a curtain that can be attached in the larger berth of the tent. Thus giving you 4 seperate areas.

If you can see one of these up it's worth the look.

Hi keely
Normally we find it not too bad in October if you have an EHU and keep it on all night. I recon either would be fine, Once again it all depends were you go,
Regards
Rex.

Thanks Rex

Have done caravanning in Nov so sort of know what to expect.  Hoping we will get our summer in October so won't need to use the heater too much.

Thanks everyone. I'll try and take a look at these in the flesh before making my final decision.

Rex - I misunderstood what a 3 season tent was. I think I only require a 2 season tent.

I'm new to camping and have found the Vario style tunnel tent good. Having the sleeping compartment at one end and a big doorway at the front that can be moved.

Vango Breckenridge 600! Huge and loads of living area and as it's last years model you can get them cheap. we paid £240.   Has a porch but not really big enough to cook in. We have a separate kitchen tent but you can get the Vango Large canopy to fit which would be fine to cook in and they retail at £40
