Have just got back from the outer hebrides using an Ohvee 2 man and a pro action hikelite (two VERY cheap tents) on a cycle tour.
They got a real workout with torrential rain and fairly strong winds. Heres how they performed
The Ohvee... in a nutshell ...AVOID ,for anything other than light/medium rain in a British summer
The first night we were on an uneven pitch in what can only be described as a bog. Mud squelched underfoot and it was very heavy rain. The Ohvee did quite well with no leaks from the seams but there was a little moisture getting in from the groundsheet underneath the mat. I did not use a tarp underneath so considering the conditions it did ok.
The second day was similar with the addition of strong winds. It was very stable in the wind , having a low profile, but the winds caused the large flat roof to constantly touch the inner roof and there was leaking. The leaks were not major but enough to cause concern and a damp towel to mop up. Also some of the seams started to leak, mostly in the vestibile where the standard of finish on the taped seams was poor.
I put up with this for three more similar nights with the same problems before giving up. I feel that for any longer the problems would just get worse and I would end up with wet gear
Another factor is the lack of height. I`m just 5`10" and I could not sit up, which for long periods is very uncomfortable
On the plus side : Its lightweight, cheap , plenty of room for ONE person,east to put up, stable in wind and water proof in light /medium rain. Ohvee describe it as "extreme" ...not a chance.
The Ohvee needs to be redesigned to avoid the large expanse of flat roof .The quality of the seams and tapes needs to be improved. I will try sealing the seams myself but there is nothing to be done about the roof.
I`ll just say that the pro action hikelite was better anhd put a description on an appropriate thread.
