OK so I'd better come clean as I'm itching to post a pic of my new baby!

All the talk about the great price at Go Outdoors of the Outwell Nevada 3 got me thinking that a small, light tent with SIG would fit the bill perfectly for my solo trips which i am desperate to do so, I just happened to accidentally buy one in a mad moment - oops!!

Justified it by having given away several tents a couple of weeks ago, also that had made a gaping hole in my camping store which was just begging to be filled. And finally I needed a boost to cheer myself up after 2 of the foster babies moved on to their adoptive families!!!!

Right, now that I've come clean I feel much better!

I must say I'm mightily impressed - great amount of space for a 3 berth and the SIG is great - we have a plague of ladybirds in Norfolk and they have been getting everywhere!

I also got the Vango large canopy off Ebay (suggested by someone on here - thanks!). It makes a great space for eating etc and fits well. Oops - I should be putting all this on the tent reviews - better do that next!

It's been pitched in the garden for a week and of course we have slept in it each night - had to test it, didn't I ?!

Most impressive! Do you have any tips for pitching Nevada 3. Bought to go solo camping. Took family camping, me in Nevada 3, they in Mojave 5. Had intended solo pitching it for practice but daughter mostly did it, complained took too long and difficult - she is not used to pitching tents. Rather knocked my confidence and I haven't attemped pitching it yet. Others say it is easy.

Do you have any tips for pitching Nevada 3.

It really is easy - I ignored the instructions (they are naff anyway!). This is how I did it - took about 15 mins.

Lay out tent, thread poles through pole sleeves and put ends of poles in ring & pins after gently arching the poles. Make sure the front 2 poles are in the right pins as they 'share a pegging point - just lay the pins out and you'll see which pin goes into which pole. Peg the back 2 corners and loosely peg out the centre back guy - this holds the whole tent in place. Then pull it all forward, peg & guy. Sounds more complicated when written down than it is - honestly!

It's not really a problem as it is a sun canopy after all - the gaps are overlapping the tent well if you follow that! It gives a bit of shelter as the only doorway is the front sloping one - to me that is the main problem about this tent - if it is raining the inside gets wet when you open the door - the Vango canopy stops that.

Sons are the same - they always know best and of course it's always the fault of the tent isn't it!!

Yes, I pitch it the same as my Oregon 5 although that's bigger - I can still pitch that one solo. The nevada has the advantage of being able to peg out the corners as it has SIG so much easier and you can get it exactly where you want it!

blimey, someone listened to moi looking good..

at Outed thats how the canopy is on all tents Vango specific or otherwise, lets the wind pass right through, and it works superb with the Orchy's. Nevada's etc as it doesnt block the corner windows..

I got the Aztec 1-pole canopy to go with my Nevada 3 - slightly cheaper!!

Fostermum, I get the impression from the photo that you have wrapped the canopy's guy ropes once around the front pole of the Nevada before pegging it down. Is this correct?

I also note that you have pegged the two front side guys further forward than usual. Is this to negate the need of the central top guy rope that is over the door?

Former Scout - I read the posts regarding the nevada 3 and canopies last week and very nearly got the Aztec one - then decided I liked the windows in the Vango one and it looked bigger - colour is OK as the pole sleeves on the Nevada are black but the orange and green guys clash a bit!!! I think the Aztec might have been a little more subtle!!

The guys on the canopy aren't wrapped around the front tent pole - I was a bit lazy and just used the same peg for the canopy guy as the Nevada guy. Just looks like it's wrapped around it - I've guyed it properly now!. It's a remarkably good fit though and will stay up till we get some rain - I want to see how much shelter it provides. Have you pitched yours yet? Just wondered how the Aztec worked - looking forward to some pics!

Guitarkid - thanks for the heads up about the Vango canopy - I'd forgotten who had posted about it and my pc is playing up and not letting me do any searches (or little smileys either!!). I'm thrilled with it!

Yes, that was the idea as that central guy is a bit of a pain when the canopy is up. I reckon if the wind really gets up and there is a need for the central guy then I'd probably be taking down the canopy as well. I'm no expert though - still learning and open to suggestions.

I've not pitched it yet, but will probably be doing so this weekend and/or later next week.

No tent is perfect and as I see it there are two problems with the Nevada 3: the sloping front door that necessitates the purchase of a canopy and that central front guy directly over the door. When I thought that you had wrapped those guys around the front poles I was wondering whether this was a way of pulling those front poles forward thus allowing you not to use that central guy...as well as having those two front side guys further forward than usual, as I noted in my second post above.
