On the basis of designs, price and reviews I have recommended Kampa tents on this forum on several occasions. Today I finally got to see one in the flesh when I popped into Camperlands. I would very much like to have seen the Frinton 4, Croyde 6, Filey 6 and maybe one of their polycottons, but Camperlands only had the Pendine 8 on display.
I was pleased, and not a little relieved to note that they are indeed very good tents. The quality was very good but what particularly struck me was their attention to detail. For example, the eybrow porch seemed to protrude more than those I've seen on Colemans, Vangos and Outwells, including my Minnesota, which gives more protection from the rain when the door is open - I've found the eyebrow porch on my Minny to be of little use in this respect. Also the cable entry point, unlike others I've seen, is hidden under a flap of material.
If Kampa continues to combine quality of materials and manufacture, attention to detail and competitive pricing then the more established brands will have grounds to be concerned.

Just a few lines about our decision to buy a Kampa tent there are just the two us and we like space around us when we go away for more than a couple of days we where using a Colorado 800DLX but I am over 6ft and could not stand up in bedroom pod and no view on a rainy day so at the start of this year thought about changing our main tent so we went all over south Wales looking for a tent we could not find anything we both liked then on a camping trip we came across the Filey 6 and the Croyde 6 on the same site pitched near us I had never considered Kampa tents before none on display near us.
So after a few days to get to know the neighbours they were more than happy to give us a enthusiastic guided tour of both, the tents are finished to a high standard the Filey is the more the top end tent with the zip out windows and eye brows over windows and side annex but we went for the Croyde it is a funny thing that makes you make your decision but the one that done it for us the bedroom it is a proper double that I can stand up in when I get out of bed in the morning and the OH gets a dressing room in the other bedroom and we loved the big windows on this tent also the built in canopy and with a entry for the power cable on both sides and at 415cm x 665cm I don’t get the same problems I get when pitching a large dome tent on some pitches and can pack down the canopy to get the length down to 510cm if problem with small pitch
I have done a review on our tent but it looks like there is a backlog on reviews page not up yet but I have put the pics up and for the price I paid £329 for tent and footprint Kampa must have remodelled the foot print it does now have pegging points and is as thick as my Vango one very happy with my decision and I think that a lot more campers will go for Kampa tents but think it will be word of mouth and reviews on sites like this don’t think that you will see them in the big retailers yet.
And the worst part about buying a Kampa tent the Holkham 6 Poly-Cotton has came to my notice and I really do like this tent so this might be my first poly-cotton roll on 2012 will use the Croyde in 2011 and there is some chat that Kampa will bring out a Vestibule next year for the Croyde and that would make a super canopy space to sit/cook in and Kampa seam to listen to us campers if they see a problem reported by customers they try to sort out on next years tents.
