I've just decided to get the Oakland XL after doing some research on here. I'll be getting an extension with it too, and at the moment am thinking about the front extension as it just gives us that extra space, but I'll be sad not to make full use of the windows to be honest.

Is there anyone out there who has either the side or front extension who can let me know what their experience is? Does the size of the front extension compensate for the reduction in light? Is the size of the side extension enough for a couple to sit under with a table and crate of beer?

These are important questions (to me)! Ha!

Thanks in advance.

We have the side extension, I don't see why you can't sit in it with table and chairs it's big enough. We decided against the front extension as we love our huge windows and as it was the main selling point for us it would be daft to cover them up with the front extension. The cost of it doesn't help either it's 100 more than the side extension, but it's horses for courses I guess.

We have the side extension, we've had a full size fridge, table and chairs under ours with no problem. The only downside of the side extension is the view from it but I suppose it depends how you pitch?

A good priced front extension here, 10% less if you get it from Go.

I have just posted my photos to the Tent Showcase. Not many people on there so far using the Front Extension, but it worked brilliantly for us freeing up indoor space completely for our young children to play...

Oakland XL Photos

I didn't notice any compensation with the light inside the living area, see the pic of my children playing on the carpet! I hope the pics say it all but if you want more info, just ask.

The Minnesota Front Extension would be 25cm too short on the width, or 12.5 cm each side. More than doable if you're careful with the pegs and guys. Now reduced to £119.99 link
