Dear all, I'm sure you'll be glad to hear it I've found a solution for the front awning of the Vermont XLP.

Its called Vango Maritsa 700 carpet. It's a near perfect fit.

There's a small area which doesnt quite fit and a small area which is a slight overlap, but as you can see from the pics it aint far off.

I have to add it goes to show just how big this tent behemoth actually is. I'll write a full review when I get back from Treloy.

Feel free to pop round if you're here (treloy) for the next few days, free tour's available. I'll be offering cups of tea assuming I can wrestle the mug out of my wife's hand (I only bought 2 with us)

Thanks for posting this ... having just spent a week in our Vermont XLP tent in variable weather I was thinking a front carpet would be good! .. I shall get googling for prices!

Out of interest ... how have you found pegging the 'panoramic' front section? .. we have only pitched twice and both times when it rains we have had issues with the front section flapping about and letting in water ... any tips how to peg it? (Outwell gave me no help when I asked!) ... we wondered if we should do the centre door first and then work out to the sides?

I have the same problem myself we found that pegging the extending rain run-off flaps with individual pegs helped, but we still had the same problem with the door. We had wind blowing straight into the front of it and it caused the door to rise up over the zipped up, and lipped (sorry guys you'd have to see it to understand) front groundsheet, and it rained in, and pooled.

I think the problem for us was that the pitch was on a slight slope and it caused that problem I hope, but if you're getting that problem as well, I don't know.

We have just had our first week in our new XLP
and we also had the flapping door, I cured this by simply stretching the two elastic loops on the bottom of the main door and attaching to the two nearest pegs holding down the adjacent skirts. To be honest I cannot see any other use for these two stretchy/elastic bands.

We resolved our flapping doors Bank Holiday weekend!17

We pitched the tent as usual ... but when it came to the panormic part we started by pulling the front door out as taut as possible, then we did the panels either side of the door - taut again, then the next ones etc. The 'skirts' (not sure of official name for these flappy bits!) were then pegged taut and we had to overlap some of them a bit ...

And yes, we used the elastic loops too.

It took a bit of time but when it rained (and boy did it rain!) we had no flapping and no water ingress, so it was worth it! We're not camping again until next year but we're hoping now we've done it once, we'll find it easier to do next time!

It's a shame Outwell don't give clear pitching instructions for these new features! .. even when I asked they just referred me to pitching for a Montana!

Is that a 2011 or 2012 version of the Vango carpet? I've seen several designs and prefer the one you have

That's the 2010 version I think when it first came out. But I could be out by a year. Definitely the first version.
