As a few of us were lucky enough to get the Outwell family dome XL - me included And as I have already experienced one campsite unable to accept a booking with said tent Can anyone recommend particualr campsites where they have used larger tents with no problems?

thanks in advance

Hi Teepee,

From what I saw, I think Fforest Fields has different sized pitches spread about the site. As you have done, if people let Katie or George know before they go then I'm sure they'll do their utmost to accommodate every size of tent.

We have a large tent and have camped at Tanner Farm Park between Goudhurst and Marston in Kent for the last two years, their pitches are very generous.

Yvonne, we thought Tanners Farm was great, that's why we've been back two years running.  I think we've been spoilt now because it's such a good site, I keep thinking it'll be difficult to find one to match that standard.  The only minus point was no pub in walking distance, although The Chequers in Goudhurst do good food.  But we loved the whole area.  Went to lots of National Trust places and other beautiful gardens.

The first time we went there were lots of tents in the tent field, but the second time not so many, and a lot of those that came for the weekend wanted electric so were pitched further away.

We have a Sunncamp 20XP, huge thing.  We camped at Dolgamedd in Dolgellau in Wales with no problems.  EHU available also (although we didn't have one at that time).

For the long haul, we went to Mounts Farm in Kingsbridge.  What an absolutley fantastic site.  EHU, tonnes of space, even around our massive tent and so relaxed it's untrue.  There was even another 20XP on the site same time as us.  No problem whatsoever.  Second field is better as Tin Tents tend to use first field where toilets and shop are.

Hi Yvonne,

Well we go to the same site now every yr as we know that we get no probs at all about the larger tents, which is Faskally in Perthshire. It also has everything we need such as the bar and the swimming pool for the kids. Here's hoping it stays like that.

Bye for now

Are there any other sites in Wales that will definitely accommodate large tents?

Yvonne

I would most definitely recommend Mounts Farm.  We even got a Christmas Card from them in December.  They are just the most relaxed people I've ever met.  Our daughter who had her 3rd birthday whilst we we there, would just help herself from the shop.  I was mortified but they simply shrugged their shoulder and said she;s fine, don't worry about it.  They started giving her a receipt when she had paid for things so I would know she hadn't just taken things.

Nothing was too much trouble for them.  They loan out EHU extensions at no cost.  The toilets and showers are spotless and ample for the camp size.  It's only 3 miles away from supermarkets and restaurants etc..  They have a lovely water feature on the site by the reception/shop which is lit up at night, very lovely and peaceful.

The site itself is very level and the grass is kept short.  We were caught in torrential rain and thunder storms with gale force winds but the field did not flood!

If you do go, please remember me to Karen and her mum and hubby.  Her mum runs the shop, her hubby is a lorry driver so not there all the time, her sister helps out too.  They will remember my Emily who went everywhere in her wellies and my mum who turned up in the second week of our hols with curry & rice she'd made and chicken, she fed the owners and half the campsite too!!!

Let's know if you decide to go.  You will need to book, especially if you want an EHU.

Good luck

Our daughter who is also 3yrs is soooooooo excited already.  She doesn't say I want to go camping, she says I want to go to camping as if it's a place!!  She loves the tent.

We are going to France for the Summer big jolly to the Loire Valley.  The owner (who has only bought the site Oct 04 and is from England with his wife and new baby boy) has assured me that there is plenty of room for our large tent with EHU and next to the trout river!!  How great does that sound???  Just need to plan the whole trip now.  Hubby and daughter need passports so that's our first port of call.

Good luck with your hols Yvonne, hope you get to go to Mounts Farm, it's peaceful & quiet and the owners sooooo laid back, relaxation is compulsory.  You must ask th owners Karen about the pub where you can get Steak on a Rock.  It's superb and if you get there before 7.00pm then you can get 2 steaks for £20.00 and they are well worth it.  Basically the steak comes out on a volcanic slab on which you slice off your own pices and cook the steak to your liking on the rock!!!  One of the highlights of of hols, especially for my son who loved the idea of cooking his own meal!!  I will upload a pic of him with his meal so you can get an idea of what it's like.

Mrs R

I see from your gallery that you have been to Fisherground in Eskdale - no problem with pitch sizes there !
