Hi

We're looking for a site in north Wales preferably with a pub within walking distance. Riverside looks ideal but they don't allow reviews which just makes ne a bit cautious! Anyone been?? Are there any pubs nearby?.

Also If anyone has any other suggestions its much appreciated!

Thanks!

Riverside is 2 minutes from the centre of Betsw and the big pub there (forget the name) but I seem to recall some complaints about Riverside on this forum and I would be weary of any site that has requested no reviews.

I know someone who had a caravan there on a pitch all summer - he never mentioned to me that he didn't like it - it seems to be the best site for Betws - I live not far from there so I would chance it but then we would only be going for a night.  If you can wait til next Tuesday I can ask him for an honest opinion.

Deb

Hi Debs

Yes please I'd really appreciate that! It does make me a bit nervous the no reviews thing!

The other one I was looking at was Bodnant which looks nice but again not sure about pub situation (sounds awful but its nice to go for a walk in the evening & have a meal & a beer etc!)

Valley of the Rocks on Anglesey has a pub next door. Mixed reviews but we liked it ok, but did not use the showers which seem to be a problem, if you have yours in the caravan it would be ok.

try this one: Only potential problem is its adults only!

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3610

Its very near the coast, (2 min walk to the beach)

BREATHTAKING scenery, I challenge you to find better, sea views of anglesey, puffin island, the great orme in llandudno and mountain views behind

Pub at the entrance to the site (staggering / rolling distance) newly refurbished and according to my son the food is good. Not had chance to try it since the new owners but it certainly looks nice. We have spent many a happy hour sat outside watching fantastic sun sets over anglesey.

Fantastic walks either beach or mountain without having to go in the car. (a couple of good pubs along a small road near the mountain.

I should get a job with the welsh tourist board for all that. (we lived in the village where the site is for 5 years and it is bdy fantastic. Only live a few miles away now but given the chance would move back tomorrow.

Hope that helps, if you need anything else give us a shout

If you fancy a bit of a tour then the sites mentioned above are not too far away, we would suggest going round those areas on day trips though.

Thanks for all your suggestions .... Is it me or are the sites in North Wales quite pricey? Its our first time going to a site in Wales we usually go to Cornwall!

Got some decisions to make .....

Not stayed in it but there is a fab campsite near Bedgellert with lovely views. I think Bedgellert is nicer than Betsw-Y-Coed (not as dark) and there are a few pubs and eating places in the village.  Hoping to get there later this year.  If you are thinking Anglesey Home Farm is  wonderful, 5* site in Best of British and just featured in this months practical caravans 100 best parks it is fairly near to the Pilot Boat pub which does great food and has a playbus outside for children.  May be a bit far to walk from the site though.

We had a static on Anglesey for 10 years and I think it is one of the loveliest places in the UK.

I have been using the Riverside in Betws y Coed for the past ten years or so.  During this time I have been on at least three occasions each year.  Indeed, last year I was unable to work for a while and spent almost a month there, leaving my awning up and just going back when able.

I fully recommend this site. Yes, there have been one or two unfavourable reviews, but reading between the lines these were from people who were looking for five star luxury.  The owner isan honest guy, who will do all in his power to make your stay a pleasant one.  The village is only a couple of minutes walk away and there are several pubs, the most popular being The Stables.

I am going there next Friday (9th March) for my first visit of the year.  If there are any changes, good or bad, I will let you know.  By the way, this is the only site for miles within walking distance of a pub.  Also, the reasons the owner declined to have reviews on this site are well documented on another thread

Was just going to say that the owner of Riverside contributed to a long thread about reviews and explained why he didn't want them. He seemed very approachable, but also had to accept that some people will be a bit nervous about a site with no reviews.  You could always start a thread asking for opinions of people who've stayed there.  I still find lots of sites on this forum without reviews, presumably because people just haven't left one.

We stayed at Riverside the year before last.  Our only complaint was that there were no hardstandings and it was very wet.  We only just managed not to get stuck in the mud and eventually spent the weekend at one end of the concrete path - the owner was fine with this though.  You can walk into Betws either along the road or along the river bank and round the golf course, which is quite a nice walk.
