Hi All

I would like to post the following INDEPENDENT AND IMPARTIAL review of the latest version of this book as I know that I and  many UKC members  have been helped by previous editions.

I would like to VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND Brian Leahy's new book "Great Seav View Camping and Caravan Sites in Great Britain."

This is a full colour revision of his earlier book, out of print, "Sea View Camping and Caravan Sites in Britain" which had 400 sites. The new book is beautifully laid out, a big improvement on earlier editions, and with a colour photo of each site. The book has 150 of his favourite sites from his earlier book. The books are based his travels around the UK in a motorhome.

It costs £7 (post paid) from Brian. It can be ordered on his website and paid for by Paypal. I ordered it on the website one day and it arrived the following day (Amazon take note!!) .

For more info and ordering information by post or online please see http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/shop/viewitem.asp?rev_id=135&subcat=1

(I'm not on commmission just a BIG FAN of these books)

I hope that Brian will continue his travels and greatly increase the number of sites in his book as my only criticism is that some Counties have less sites than they deserve.

I've just been using the book to help me choose a site for my post-Whit break.

Regards

Tim

I am a fan of Brians book too, I have the original one and Brian is extremely approachable.

I too will be buying the new book.

Good Luck with your future trips.

Got mine last week but have only just read it.Great read!

However the problem with this sort of book in general terms is that something gets missed out, the prices alter and so on.

That's why up do date online information is the way to go if you require pretty accurate information.

One site I've noticed that's missing is one near Thurso which is particularly useful for people travelling to Orkney on the Scrabster to Stromness route. It's a great site on the Scrabster road and I can't find it in the book.

I'm not in way finding criticsm with the book, just an observation.

Actually I enjoyed it and the coast always has that special kind of thing!

I have the previous book and find it useful, however the new one looks useful as well so I've ordered one of those too.

Many thanks for all the kind comments and criticism.  Criticism as one of the few great managers that I ever worked with is a gift because one can learn from it so I mean it when I say that I welcome criticism and I will bear it in mind if I re-print.

I deliberately based the site price that I show on a motor caravan and two people in 2005 to give consistency.  The growing custom of moving from a standard unit price to charging for vehicle, number of people dogs, cats and canneries means that you’re right about having to go on line for up to date pricing.

I have also been told that I should have given more detail such as does the site take tents, is there a slipway? Etc.

I will bear those points and any more that are offered if I go into a reprint.

I am sending this reply from a static with a sea view at Blue Anchor Bay where there are no sea views for touring caravans.  I’m afraid as I’m getting soft

I am using a Laptop and a 3G Data Card on O2 which is frustratingly slow so if anyone has any suggestions as to a faster network I would welcome it.

Hi there I have just received my book from you and am very happy with it, I just love a sea view.............I think I once suggested before that you do a river/canalside one too, that would be great.

Ref the laptop mine is a 3G with vodaphone to be honest I find it quite good, just the odd time it is very slow but in general a bit like the old dial up connections, have you got a aerial that seems to help a little too and can be bought on the net for about £20, we were on a site at new year and I couldn't log on at all without the aerial whereas my friend had a aerial and no probs, I got one at that point.

All the information that Brian has not provided can be found by simply using the campsite search on this website, hey presto, all the missing info answered.

I've got the new book now and it really is very good.

I also use a 3G card (orange) and a laptop and I find that the performance can vary quite a lot. Most of the time I get a 384K connection and that's pretty good, however in more rural locations all you get is 56K and that's pretty slow.

Just had this message from Brian, the author

I am extremely embarrassed to have to say that the printers are in the process of moving their printing works from Oxford to Witney and they are not yet fully operational. They did promise me that they will do all that they can to produce a re-print of the book as soon as possible and as soon as the books are delivered to me I will get them in the post.

I recognise that many people will have wanted the book for their summer holidays and if this is a problem please let me know and I will either refund the money by Paypal or destroy the cheque.
