Hi All ... we are new to caravanning and are looking for suggestions for a site in Cornwall / Devon near to beaches, (walking distance from a pub or small bar on site)who can accommodate us plus one friendly dog this August !!

I know there are ample of previous posts and the search facility, but we seem to be hitting a brick wall (too many to choose from, and when we do they are all fully booked !)

We are members of the CC, but will have to be more organised for next year, and book as soon as they are open for bookings !

Suggestions most welcome ... Thanks for your help !

I can personally recommend Carnevas which is on the north Cornwall coast not far from Padstow. They accept touring caravans, have lots of pitches with EHU, a nice on-site bar (and a pub ten minutes away), a shop, very clean facilities and the site is only fifteen minutes walk from the beautiful beach at Porthcothan (twenty if you take the scenic route) or twenty-five minutes from the more developed beach at Treyarnon. I've camped there many times and never been disappointed (I have no connection other than as a customer).

I have only been to one site in South Devon, Cofton Countrty Holidays in Dec 2009, and would recommend it for its proximity to a beach (Dawlish Warren), on-site pub, and being dog friendly.

My top recommendations for Cornwall with your check list would be:

Gwithian Farm near Hayle/ St. Ives; there is a pub just accross the road and it's a short stroll to a stunning beach and some lovely beach cafes. Beatiful walks along the cliffs at Godrevy lighthouse where you can sometimes spot seals. Well worth the walk along to Hell's Mouth and the cafe there - amazing crab sandwhiches! Quite a large site, but very spacious, flat pitches and great facilities, lovely toilet/shower block.

If you like Padstow Dennis Cove is a good option and they have a few hardstanding EHU caravan pitches. It's a 10 minute walk into Padstow along the flat Camel Trail to all the pubs, bars, cafes and restuarants. Lovely quiet site, fairly basic if that is what you like. The beaches at Padstow & rock are lovely and a 15 minute walk away. You do need to book early and Padstow can get very busy in school holidays so we tend to avoid it then though.

I would recommend Gwithian as well. Which reminds me, I must do my review.
