Hi all.

Can recommend anywhere near Lands End?

We will be camping, family of 5, eldest child is 5.

Would prefer a more "organic" site and not one of the massive "Holiday parks".

I did see this place:

Pentewan Sands

However, it just seems MASSIVE.

All we want is wide open space so we can chill and the kids can let loose without annoying anyone.

Near a beach preferred but in a forest would be equally acceptable.

A working farm would be nice, but dont know if anything like that exists.

So.. checklist:

Cornwall
Open Space
Nice views
Clean facilities
Natural

Look forward to any replys.

Thanks.

I can Recomend Trewethett Farm Caravan Club Site. They have a lovely part of the site just for tents and all the usual facilities that CC sites offer.

This is The local beach just a short walk from the site. You can see it from the Tent field

A few other views i managed to get from the site.

Hi there,

We have stayed at Treen Farm near Pothcurno before; seems to meet your criteria. It is basic but with nice, clean facilites. It's a couple of fields back from the cliffs so nice sea views and lots of space. Near beautiful Porthcurno beach (easy walking distance along the coast path). I think it is a working farm, but not sure where the actual farm is, or if you can visit. Only down side, I do not think you can book...

Another option would be my favourite site ever - Henry's in the Lizard village. Bit further from Lands End but Lizard Point is the southern most point of the mainland and way nicer than Lands End - which is very commercialised (IMO). The site is really quirky but amazing! It's not a farm as such but there are pigs in pens and hens have free range on the site. Lovely views and the facilities are fine. Near Kynance cove and the beautiful beach there. It's also right in the village so good for pubs, shops and Anns pasties (best in Cornwall). It may be fully booked for this year, however, depends when you want to go.

Check out the reviews for both, including mine for Henry's. I just love it!

Hope that helps!

Kenneggy Cove near Penzance

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1481

Views of the sea, there is access (down a track) to a very quiet beach.  Site is small and unspoilt.

Not at Land's End but to be honest the further you get down in Cornwall your close to anything as it's so narrow from coast to coast!

If you want as near to Lands End as possible then Sennen  C & CC site might be a better option.

Not sure if you've been to Lands End before but I always find it a bit bleak towards that end of Cornwall and not so pretty as further up the coast.  So you might prefer a site a bit further away and drive to Lands End (but believe me, it's not all that exciting there!! )

Looks a nice site, but the prices are eye watering.

£36 a night for us and 3 kids.

£252 for a week in my own tent?

Maybe I am too tight - lol

I agree with chelsea girl, Lands end  can be bleak, and usually surrounded in sea mist, whereas the Lizard is stunning.

Never been to that part of the country before you see and has pointed out, it is that narrow, a drive is only a few minutes, wherever you are.

In which case not fussed about lands end :)

Any more suggestions :)

Treen Farm looks perfect, but after a probable 7 hour + trip with 3 young kids, I dont think Mrs Moo will go for the idea of "turning up and waiting for a pitch".

When are you planning on going? We arrived around lunch time on a Friday in July (before the school holidays), having phoned in the morning whilst on the way to check availability. We had no issues at all getting a spot and didn't have to wait - the site wasn't full by any means. You could stay over a night or two somewhere on the way down so you could get there earlier, which is what we did. And you could always ring in advance to get a feel from the owners, see what they say about how busy it's been this year etc. then check again the day before you set off... I know what you mean though - with the long drive and kids and stuff you want to be sure of a spot.

If you don't fancy Henry's, I know that lots of people recomend Chy Carne on the Lizard. It doesn't really float my boat due to the size etc but it may be worth taking a look.

We stayed at Chy Carne on the Lizard last year, and it has a quiet field with stunning views of the sea. You drive through the static part and on to the tourers, and tent fields. Beach down a step lane, about quarter of mile,  Kenneck sands. Shop on site, and marque also iff you want to meet other campers. Fire pits can be hired. Our grandson loved it there.   Penny

If you want Cornwall in peak season tis the price you pay I'm afraid. If you were staying in a static during school hols you're probably looking at a grand a week,   especially for coastal located sites.  You might be better going for rural, inland.

I agree about Chy Carne - didn't float my boat either.  It's a busy site in peak season.

7 hours is a heck of a journey, when are you planning on coming?  Best to time your journey well as everyone comes to the South West for their holidays!

Chy Carne seems too big for my tastes.

Anyone have any pics of Kenneggy Cove as to get a feel for the place?

Is it within walking distance of a beach?

Is it a small or a large site?

50 pitches in 4 acres, so it's pretty small-ish compared to most.

Read the reviews!  You can get to the beach but involves a footpath and a ladder!

I always go on google maps for an aerial view of any of the sites I visit.
