Kittenshipman posted about her new bargain Wild Country Aspect 2 tent on another part of this mb, but its buried away in the depths of an Equipment thread and it looked good enough to deserve a bit more profile!

The design looks a bit different and quite interesting to me. Would have been ideal for my son + mate walking through the Pyrenees last year.
The Outdoor Shop
currently have it for a very impressive £100 in their sale.   Review here.

Has anyone seen or tried one? Cheers

Thanks for the nudge Merry

I have indeed bought a Wild Country Aspect 2 - got mine for the bargain price of £80 using the 20% discount last weekend at Field & Trek then bid on a groundsheet protector on eBay and got it for £1.30! £4.29 inc. postage but still a lot better than the £25 I've seen it for elsewhere.

So far I've only had a really quick look and test pitch - we're having work done on our house and currently have no fences so I got to do it in front of the builders and the general public Good job it went up quick!

The first thing that struck me when it arrived was the packsize - the official dimensions are 20cm x 40cm but I measured it at 18cm x 60cm! I packed it smaller with very little effort and reduced the length by just over 10cm and i reckon I could get it smaller still but I think you'd struggle to match the official dimensions. I'm used to giving a bit of leeway to account for my packing as opposed to factory neatness but this is the first time I've packed a tent better than when it arrived! The bag for the tent is oversized but that is mostly lengthways so you end up with a good 20cm of empty bag at one end - think I'm going to swap the bag, I've got various sized stuffsacs and drybags and I bet one of them is a better fit.

Then I couldn't resist weighing it - the whole thing came in at over the 2.2kg quoted but it looks pretty accurate without the bag, my scales aren't the best so no exact weights I'm afraid. Plus you don't actually get enough pegs for the tent so you'd need to factor that in too.

I'm very impressed with the quality and attention to detail. The flysheet feels fab and the finish is flawless, really good quality fittings - guys, pegging points, eyelets, clips, poles etc. I'm especially impressed with the poles, incredibly light but feel really sturdy when clipped into place and slot together soo much better than other shock-corded poles I've used.

First pitch was very straightforward. Lay out flysheet (inner's already attached), put pole ends into eyelets and clip to flysheet, flap black bit over and velcro 'round pole, peg end guys then all other pegging points, re-peg end guys and done! You also get 4 guys with a hook at one end - these hook onto either side of the black flap bit (2 for each pole) and you peg them in a X shape for extra stability in bad weather. You also get a little repair kit with patches and a small pole sleeve thingy that you can slide over a broken pole as a makeshift repair - I read on the Terra Nova site that this can also be used as a peg puller - anyone got a Wild Country/Terra Nova tent with this bit who could explain how this works?

I was on a time limit when I pitched it so I didn't peg out the inner or try out the canopied door - my garden is being fenced as I type so I'll hopefully be able to get it pitched properly in the next few days and take lots of piccies! One thing I did notice was that the rain cowl on the top left corner of the main door is going to catch a bit when you use the front door as a canopy, there's a little clip to reinforce the door when used like this which is a nice touch but it wont be possible to get it perfectly taut. Still very useable but slightly irritating, I'll get a better idea when I dig out some poles to try it with.

It's a surprisingly big little tent with decent headheight for the weight, looks to be the perfect size for me and the hound. The inner tapers with the back of the tent so it might be a bit squeaky for two, but enough space for 2 normal sized rollmats side by side - nothing wider though. There's a bit of space either end of the inner and enough room in the porch for a couple of rucksacks, but again, only just

Sorry about the mahoosive post, I can't wait to try it out properly!

Nice review by the way. Was thinking o buying a Vango Tempest 200, but now you guys have thrown this tent into the equation just to confuse me....in nice way :)

The 20% discount was at Field & Trek but it was only valid for the weekend I only knew because someone on here mentioned it! I found the Aspect 2 for £100 on lots of sites and there has been the odd one popping up on eBay too. I probably would have ended up paying the £100 and still been pleased but it was nice to save a few quid

I looked at the Tempest 200 as well, really nice little tent and the TBS is a nice touch for nasty weather but it was a bit too heavy for me at 2.65kg. Ideally I would've liked a tent that weighed less than 2kg but for my budget and space requirements that was never going to happen so the Aspect 2 was a good compromise for me.

I'm also a fan of having two doors - handy if there's 2 of you, you can use your porch purely as storage if you want and it's nice to have a choice if the wind changes too. My Khyam's got 2 doors and it was fab this weekend - garden camped at my in-laws with my little sis instead of shelling out for a hotel for a hen do Woke up with a stinking hangover being boiled alive - whipped open both doors and went back to sleep. The back door is also quicker to open (only one zip instead of two) and this proved to be invaluable when my sister nearly did something unmentionable in my tent!

The other feature that really swung it for me was the ability to canopy out the main door, nice to have a wee bit of shelter from the inevitable rain...

Hope that all makes sense - killed a few too many brain cells at the weekend

I am very tempted to buy one of these for my son as a Christmas present, not so much because he needs another backpacking tent but because I'm intrigued by the design. Like the two doors, which he couldn't find on a tent in this price range when he was looking, and the no-thread poles.

If anyone sees one for less than £100 for the tent or £25 for the g/s, please say!

I have bought one of these tents on the strength of this thread and tried it out today in the garden. Very impressed with the ease of putting it up.

As others have said there aren't enough pegs, only 7 and you need 10 for all the guy points, bit stingy methinks and I'm going to contact Terra Nova about it.

As for using the pole repair sleeve as a peg puller, my guess is that you slide the tube under the curved part of the peg and pull it up with a finger either side of the peg.

Well have had a response and its a bit mean to be honest and those of you who've bought this tent, think how many peg points there are see if you get 7?

We only supply minimum required to pitch which with the aspect 2 is 7x pegs.

If more pegs are required there are a selection different pegs sold in packs that be purchased from our website here:

http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/Product_Type/Camping_Accessories/Tent_Accessories

Hope this helps.

Best Regards Sharon

Well what can I say apart from whatta tent

Bought it for £90 after reading a reviev in trail magazine where it was given 5 stars and an rrp of £150 so I thought bargain.

I Tried it out a few weeks ago near Newcastle as i was there for the great north run and this weekend I gonna be wild camping at stickle tarn or around that area in the lake district. Anyway here is the review oh I also spent a further £5 pounds on some more lightweight but strong pegs as for some reason the tent comes with a couple short.

excellent to see some real world reviews of this tent, this thread doesn't come up under a normal google.

I am more or less committed to getting one for me and my 7 year old daughter to wild camp in and around north devon where we live, as a replacement for my trusty but heavy Wild Country Tempest. It's a nightmare trying to decide on a lightish tent thats not too expensive and luckily your positive comments have been very useful in finally getting me to make up my mind !

I have but one question, how effective is the porch in the rain ? doesn't water come in at the sides especially if it's blustery ? I have noticed some very cheap festival type tents go as far as having triangles of material attached on either side to provide more protection from the elements.

Thanks in advance :)

I have one of these tents, they're a good bargain to my mind. A bit small for two adults, but it should be fine for an adult and child.

I've not really had it out in blustery weather yet, but I don't think the porch would be too effective in that kind of rain to be honest. You could zip up the innner door, but then that would just get wet instead, so I'd probably take the porch down if the weather is really that bad.
