I have still got a Tinker Junior, the one man version, the standard Tinker was a two man tent.

As regards season rating, we used them twelve months of the year.  If you look in my profile you wil see one in the snow, it's the dark green tent amongst the orange Force Tens.

"Tinker Tent", lol. I vaguelly remember the name but can't recall if I've ever seen one in the flesh. I think it must be just a shade before my time. There's not many marketing departments that would get away with that name nowadays in our PC modern world, is there?

I've still got my tinker tent bought in 1966 for £30.00 with new innovation of a sewn in groundsheet and external A pole.It is still waterproof and in excellent condition.

I used it year round but it neede rubbers (not thatsort) on the guy lines.

An excellent tent in canvass but heavy by todays standard.

We had our honeymoon in ours in 1972. Is she spoilt or what? Trouble is it has set the high standard of our hlodays eversince.

I managed to get the Tinker Junior up in the garden today for a photograph.
It was one of the last ones made, I bought it at a Blacks clearance sale in the early 70's, and is orange with a zipped door.  The earlier Tinkers were green with ties to fasten the door.  I was told that the tents had been specially made in order to clear the stock of flysheets as they were discontinued.

The tent label also has the name Benjamin Edgington on it, another old manunufacturer of top quality tents, who I believe were bought out by Blacks in the 60's.

Brought back fond memories of the Blacks Artic Guinea mountain tent we used in the 1960s , it was a tent that could withstand just about any weather  and when I read now about not cooking in a tent I think back when three of us would be jammed into the tent in a gale with the primus hissing away boiling up a brew

great days   sf

Apart from the Tinker in the photograph, I've also got Bukta Wanderlust from the 60's and an original Force Ten from the early 70's.

Yeah, I remember that too...Hubby and I holed up in the Force 10 with the primus on in the bell end and the rain hammering down outside.....

Mind you, that was 30+ years ago, when we were young and had no creaky bits. Nowadays gimmie the trailer tent on a wet day anytime! On our last camp during Monsoon Day we had the two young men and their dog from the ridge tent opposite sitting in our awning having a cup of tea and watching "Sleeping Beauty" on the DVD player (choice of 7 year old DD)...and they were bloomin' grateful, I can tell you!

At least in those days, if you were like us, you had breakfast before you got out of your sleeping bag.  17

Blimey that brings back memories, my first tent was a Tinker and it wasn't new when I got it from my brother. It's still going strong doing the festival circuit with my nephew.
