Hello

I've been reading about the various merits of Coleman and Camping Gaz stoves. I am thinking of buring a two burner stove and am leaning towards a Coleman dual fuel. I would like some advice as to whether you can safely use one on top of an ordinary camping type table? By that I mean a table with a laminated chipboard type top - or does the base of the stove get too hot and probably spoil the table top? If I had to buy a "camping kitchen" to use the stove on I may decide on a gas burner instead. I am sorry if this seems a particularly dumb question but I have no experience at all of petrol stoves, until now I have only used single burner gas stoves.

Thanks.

Can't help with the dual fuel stove but I have started using a table such as you mention to stand my Campingaz Lagon twin burner stove on and that doesn't seem to get too hot underneath for the table top.

I can`t understand as to why people need to be messing about with petrol when camping? surely gas or gaz is much cleaner and safer

We had a Campingaz triple burner stove (there's 6 of us!), the cheapest I've found one is £28.99 on the Outdoor Megastore.  Worth a look if only to read the amusing anecdotes by Stan on all the products! We used it on a concertina kitchen stand because it was the safest way to do it.

Sorry can't help with the dual fuel stoves.

the coleman is tip top brilliant, I just used it on top of a alluminium roll up table and it was fine. we would definately struggle going back to gas now.

problems with gas IMO, the less bulky and lighter cartridges and 901, 904 ,907 bottles can still have lots of gas left and no pressure to do anything, and any bottle above you are getting into heavy and bulky scenarios, and anybody that says its dangerous to carry fuel, then you see how safe a jerry can or sig/msr bottles, thats what you should be using.. and lets not forget how many times we have read of someone blowing there hand off cos of a leaking gas pipe, there are dangers in cooking full stop, be it gas, petrol or open camp fire.

I felt very safe with the coleman and would recommend them to anyone with the common sense to know the rules.

and it is the quickest cup of tea ive ever had while camping, and those fold up toasting things are ace on them.

Coleman all the way for me.

Thanks all, your replies have been really helpful. I am sold on the Coleman now. At £50 it looks a real bargain.

Vectratot
Apart from this being a fast, efficient powerful stove this is also cheap to run. I can cook on this twice a day for a week on less than a litre of petrol. I was forever having to change gaz bottles. I cannot imagine using anything else. We transport our fuel safely. Don't knock this stove until u have tried it. Last weekend camping with friends I started our breakfast ages after our frieds but my OH was the 1st to get his brekky. Look out for these at the car boot. My OH gat a brand new one for a fiver last year.

Gas is for people who've never used petrol - it can't be beat in my opinion.

As for dangerous fuel myth merchants - tell 'em "rubbish" as it comes down to a choice between highly flammable volatile liquid or highly flammable pressurized gas!  Both are potentially dangerous and both need proper handling.
