Can anyone recomend a type of camp beds for tent use? While im not exactly looking for 'four-poster ' quality (and price), they want to be a marked improvement on the air matresses we use at present.
We have used ones from the Argos (catalogue P895 cat no 340/8427) for several years, they have been very good. They were £20 when we bought them now £24.99. I also saw some king size ones in Towsure on Saturday, they looked Ok but cost more.
i bought a camp bed from argos only 10 days ago.(cat no.340/8427) as sleeping on an air bed for a week with a bad back is not good. have just used it for the past week and found it very comfortable, but...i was surprised at how cold i was, as the air circulates underneath. i had to put a blanket between the bed and my sleeping bag. you can store your bags under it too which helps with space.
I've been thinking about the same set up for our tent.
A Q: What height is the camp bed off the ground?
My idea is that 2 of these camping cots would be placed across the tent, left to right and hopefully 2 single Therm-a-Rest mats could be slid underneath, front to back.
The kids would sleep on the cots and the adults on the ground with their feet under the camping cots, does that make sense? Do you think it would be possible?
The kids on the cots because, being shorter than the adults there is less chance of them touching the sloping sides of the pyramid tent.
I've been using #2 for some time now with a thermarest on top, has been very comy & warm. Mine cost me £8 from surplus stall & is very strong, they are available in camping shops but don't tend to be as robust as army ones.
I have trouble with being able to move in the mornings when camping with a sore back, I use a Exped downmat, bit like a delux lilo, with insulation, so no cold from the ground - cost a lot, but I use it for hiking, camping where weight is of the issue (and comfort in my case)
Being a bit taller than the average camper and so too tall for the standard 185cm/190cm bed I have ordered this, should have tomorrow, and the price is pretty good, looking elsewhere (the seller of the bargain cupboards strikes again)
We do exactly the same as Caster, except we use the rubberised airbeds which we've found don't slip so much on the campbed. As I said on another thread i find my camping sleeping arrangements so comfy I struggle when I go home!!
