Whenever we go camping I never know where to put my cutlery, plates, cups, scissors, tongs etc. I often pack them all into a soft cool bag with handles for easy packing, but this means we end up rooting around in the bag all the time!

Help please, does anyone have a better setup?

I have bought some little plastic boxes from wilko and put then on the shelf in my kitchen unit one for knife,forks etc and another for tin opener and knifes etc. i think they were a couple of quid for 3 boxes.so easy when it cam e to diner time and just got the box out and put it on the table.

cutlery, tin opener and such go in an old biscuit tin crockery goes in the washing up bowl.

Large plastic box for plates etc, bacon boxes for cutlery; one for eating irons and another for kitchen utensils. Those brightly coloured knives with a blade cover are brilliant.

A small plastic box (like a lunchbox) for cutlery and small bits like tin opener and bottle opener. Large utensils (like slotted spoon, spatula, tongs) are hung on the side of the kitchen cupboard. Plates, cups etc are all on one shelf of the kitchen cupboard.

All the kitchen bits live in one crate for travelling. Once I build the Outwell Aruba storage unit (really quick to set up) plates, bowls, cups, pans etc live the shelves on one side. I then normally use the other side for storage of provisions. Knives, forks and spoons travel and stay in a Tupperware type box. I have a little round Tupperware box for teaspoons. On one side of the unit I have added a door organiser/tidy where I keep all kitchen tools like tongs, spatulas, bread knife etc. When the crate is unpacked I place the cool box on top, I then don't need to bend down to rummage around and look inside for things.

If I go away for a quick one night break, I just take the kitchen crate. To be honest the unit is so easy and quick to build I've even taken it on one night trips, it provides a useful surface to prep food.

OMG !!!! McGuire that is exactly what I do,even the bit with putting the fridge on the empty box after. I have the aruba too !!

I'm glad you asked the question as I'm trying to streamline this part of my camping. When I'm on my own I use one Spork and so it's not so hard to lose, but when I take kids (teenagers)I am forever rooting in boxes or bags (bag for life usually). A few weekends ago I lost all teaspoon (they weren't completely lost, just hiding from me) and I discovered that an eating knife, dipped into a coffee jar three times, equals one teaspoon.

Thank goodness for that. Thought I was being a bit over the top. However it's such a quick unit to put up and handy for storage and organising things....much easier than rummaging around trying to find the bottle opener.

We spotted it at a camp shop (just looking....honest) and thought it would be great. I thought it was too expensive, my wife however thought it was worth the expense (women are far more intelligent than men!). One of the best bits of kit we have ever bought.

If I'm doing weekend camping, I keep our cutlery in a lunchbox for travelling and then stored in a cutlery drainer on the table for the holiday.

For longer stays it lives in a cutlery tray (I think it was around £1 from Wilkos) on top of a 3 drawer unit from Argos like this, packed into a drawer for the journey. We have a trailer (and far too much stuff) but if I'm holiday, I'm not rummaging for a teaspoon!

Plates, cups etc are stored in one drawer, pans in another, and the top drawer is for teatowels, tinfoil, sandwich bags etc. It stays packed in the trailer all year round with a list of what needs adding back in for each trip in the top drawer.

Plates/dishes/cups/bread knife/bread boards etc go in a large plastic box on the table top.
Sandwich box has all cutlery/tin opener/bottle opener etc.
Pots and pans get transported in any old bag, then laid out on the cooker stand, along with the washing up bowl.
Cooking utensils get transported in the big crockery box, then get hung on the side of the cooker stand.
One further small lidded bucket/tub goes on the floor, full of dishcloths/pot sponges/bin liners etc.

Oh yes..... and the pièce de résistance..... Our kitchen roll holder/dispenser fits perfectly on the end of the table!!

I am re-using the bag that came with a pair of walking boots. However, it is made of PVC and has started to show signs wear and tear.

When it breaks, I shall transfer the crockery and cutlery to a plastic box.

We don't have a trailer (or roofbox since it was stolen last year), don't take loads of furniture and like to cook in the sun on the rare occasion it makes an appearance so we need something easy to move.

A toolbag works great (it's bright red so doesn't look too much like a toolbag). OH made a top for it using drysuit material and velcro so everything is completely covered. No bugs in it yet anyway!!

There are only 2 of us so we don't need as much but it has in -
Bread knife, skewers, spatula, fork etc for cooking, scissors, cutlery for 4 people, 4 plates, 4 bowls, 2 mugs, 2 beakers, 2 wine glasses (should have put them first), salt & pepper, teabags & coffee, kettle, silicone trivet things for putting hot pans on so they don't burn the grass , 2 folding toasters, chopping surface, plastic table cloth, washing up liquid.....

There may be more but I'd have to have look as it's been a while since we've been camping.

It's not huge either. It's a wee bit gadgety so I love it.

If I can figure out how to upload pictures I'll give it a go if anyone is interested.

We have a Vango Brisbane kithen unit so might follow mcquire and get a door tidy to go on the side.

Plastic 4 drawer unit for me works really well to keep all the kitchen bits tidy and easy to access.
