After reading about the stove on here yesterday and seeing a suggestion to go to Index I went and bought one this morning. It was a bargain so thank you to the person who posted the idea!

all arrived today, read the instructions a few times, got familiar with evything, also got a MSR fuel bottle for carrying the fuel in.

how do you get the fuel, will a garage let you do it, or have you got to put it in a petrol can and then fill the fuel bottle up at home?

From what I've read on here people put the petrol in one of those emergency petrol things you get from petrol stations while they are filling up their cars. That's what we're going to do. I'm a bit new, what is an MSR bottle?

You get them from Halfords, cmoing and cycling shops.  Shiny metal bottles with a cap.  can you see this picture ?

Chris, MSR is a brand that do fuel burning stuff like coleman but more for the extreme backpacker type person(i think). so a MSR bottle is the bottle that you keep the fuel in and mine is exactly like the middle one in the piccy above, except with MSR on it..

Hi

I have just had to replace the generator on my stove because I used "old" petrol, it's not a good idea to store fuel for any length of time. Old fuel will also ruin your lawn mower etc.

thank you for the info, we were intending to take a car petrol thing (the green plastic ones) with us as I was worried that leaving it full might be dangerous.

Christine, they are just £42 in Index, reduced from £60.  However, I had to visit a couple of branches to find one.  They have lots of bargains (not just camping) because they are closing down, I think they may have gone bust?  I also got the remote control lantern for just £9, I wanted a campingaz one but there were none left (I even got my Dad to go to his local branch !!).  Well worth a look.

If you fill the stove up before you go then a litre fuel bottle as back-up is all you really need and should probably last you about a week (depending on how much cooking you're doing).

I use an emergency petrol can at home - fill it up at a petrol station, bring it home and then top up my litre bottle from that.

I was looking at fuel bottles (including the MSR) and ended up with one made by Trangia - it's plastic and has a special venting valve on the top designed to release the pressure caused by the fuel after standing for a while.  This has the added advantage of baing able to be used for pouring the fuel and is much safer if you're a bit of a messy pup like me (a tenner from Millets).

I use the trangia too.

A couple of good additional safety features - springloaded valve that shuts if you drop the bottle.

Also, you screw the valve shut when the bottle is full for transport.

Piccie here http://www.fieldandtrek.com/product-Trangia-Fuel-Bottle-18527.htm
