hiya

the first time i went camping we was all bitton to dead, whats the best insect repellant ???????????? is there any sales on any where ???????????? coz i know it can cost a bit......

This is a subject close to my heart as someone who is mosquito bait!  I don't seem to get bitten here but am tortured when abroad.

Seems the best products contain an ingredient called DEET.  Put DEET in Google & you should find plenty of products which seem to have varying levels of DEET in them, some up to 95%.   I've found stuff in Boots.

I think you have to be careful if using it on kids.

I read in an outdoor magazine a while back that a mixture of baby oil and Dettol does the trick - I think it was 75% baby oil and 25% Dettol. Stinks, but, if it works, it's worth it.

I've also tried a mixture of essential oils and I put that in everything - I got unperfumed shampoos and things and added the oils and I even made my own soap! Put 5 drops in 1 tbsp witch-hazel and then dilute in 4 tbsp water to use as a spray.

4 drops thyme, 8 drops lemongrass, 4 drops lavender, 4 drops peppermint.  You can put 2 drops of the mixture in a carrier oil to put directly on the skin.

Covering up doesn't always do the job - I still have scars from being bitten about 4 years ago and I was well covered.

Have tried the Avon Skin So Soft spray myself (it was the Woodland Fresh one) and it has worked for me

It's not expensive so maybe it's worth a try for you.

Do you like the end of October, wear a tall pointed hat and travel around on a brush by any chance?

Also try citronella oil. We used this in conjunction with SOS woodland fresh and managed to survive August on the Kintyre Peninsula.

Skin so Soft definately repels Scottish Midges, the only problem for me being I forgot about my ankles.
