Is it possible to run a Cadac Safari Chef (HP) or Mini Chef (HP) from refillable gas cylinders? The models I have are high pressure (HP) ones (EN417 canister) and, from what I understand, would need changes to the jet, at least, before any connections to LP gas cylinders via a hose with some kind of regulator. They sell LP versions of these so this is maybe right but I've come across this on eBay:-
It appears to be just an EN417 male connection on the end of some hose (which presumably attaches to a regulator). It would be nice to hear that someone has something working along these lines but I'm sure there would be more to it
I looked into this a couple of years ago, and as far as I was aware, no legitimate conversion exists to cover HP version to LP.
Someone somewhere might have designed one since, however, I am not aware of it.
I don't like the look or the description of the one in the eBay link, as it does not really tell me anything.

Yes, the listing's not the most informative one I've seen and it's not helpful at all. I was thinking it was someone out to make a quick few bob with no comebacks.
I'd even read of people refilling EN417 cartridges from refillable cylinders but that's not something I'd like to attempt
Since there was a lack of information about converting, I was assuming that it's not a simple or cheap thing to do else there would off-the-shelf hoses available.
I have a 13kg calor cylinder that at some time will become a logburner but theres a small amount of gas still in it so ive had it connected to any thing and every thing including an old but usable single burner backpacking stove with no issues what so ever . Ive watch the small gas canisters being filled in Nepal quite scary as they were welding in the next room repairing my bike rack .
I see your in Woodhouse . We are at Sutton in Ashfield .

Yes: A Woodhus lad :) The only differences I can see (if both propane-filled) is pressure and volume of gas between container types. It would just be handy to run the stove/barbecue from a refillable one at home.
Cadac did a HP to LP conversion kit but as far as I'm aware it was never available in this country

I've not got a refillable one yet as I wanted to make sure it'd work first. I'll check the instructions that came with them both to see if there's anything in there about one. I would assume it would be a propane regulator (possibly a specific one that's appropriate for HP), some hose and the EN417 connection (just like the eBay one).
... just looked again at the Safari Chef manual (2007 one, mines 2001) and it's showing this:-
Not sure if the fitting is same as ours over here as it says "Adaptor Hose 2501 (SA only)".
... and just found my Safari Chef instruction book: just mentions use with EN417 cartridges and also says "This product uses a Cadac Jet No. 0325": this is the same as in the 2007 manual.

That's what I was told by Cadac when I e-mailed them about it - this kit is not available in the UK.

It could be it's designed to fit cadac own refillable bottle which wasn't available in the UK

It does look like it, from what I've since read:
"Cadac gas bottles are not available in this country, items imported from South Africa will not work; it is possible to purchase adapters or replacement stems to allow connection to directly to camping gaz bottles, or stems which allow connection to european gas bottles via gas hose."
There's a page what I've found that shows the South African connection on top of their cylinders which doesn't look much like anything I've seen over here:-
