After 6 months of thinking about we bought our first trailer today a 750kg GT anssems trailer. Now just need to get the roof bars to go on it to put on the bikes
Has anyone done this what roof bars did you get and bike carrier?

Nice Trailer, with plenty of options to increase volume if needed, or maybe you have done so already, side Extentions, Lid etc.

One thing is for sure, you will wonder how you ever coped without a Trailer.

i've got one with box, side extensions, lock hitch and thule bars, see pic. It's a great trailer, but with side extensions the sides started too move out a little so we had it bolted and attional locks put on.

We have the trailer and the lid what roof bars did you get, we want to mount bikes on them rather than a roof box,(that is going on the car)

Look at my pic I used to have a wooden trailer and made a lid for bike racks, I'm sure you could do the same with yours

we went to halfords and tried a few different thule bars and connections. They work great and can hold bikes or the box on top. We wanted a little overhang also.

I have a Anssems GT750-201 and am now looking to fit bars on the lid and would like some advice on what length Thule bars fit best, due to the limitation of the length of the track for the feet. I know the Thule757 feet are required and I assume either the 118cm or 127cm bars would be the right ones. When I've asked at some local dealers I get the "you want to bars on a trailer!".

This is my Thule bar. It is the 118 cm length, and uses the 'claw type' foot that clamps very securely on the the trailer. I can't recall the product number. I got the bars second hand from gumtree.
It would do the same with or without the lid.
I have the lid and 2 sets of extension sides on my Gt 750 201.

Enjoy.

I got my dealer to fabricate some bars and permanently fix them to the trailer. I have used standard cheapish bike bars on them, or a roofbox.

Sorry I don't have a better picture.

We have an Anssems too, brilliant little trailer with the waterproof lid. I have just put our roof bars it for the roof box. Originally wasn't going to put it on the trailer but after trying it, its much easier for access to the box. Will try to get some bike carriers for the other roof bars on the car.

Hi Dubsta (or anyone else with a box on their Anssems)
How is the weight of the lid and box being lifted on the gas strut, does it stay open on its own, and what is the combined weight like to lift? Am considering this option alongside the option of a Brenderup with extension sides and abs lid.
I like the idea of the Anssems as having a separate roof box would give more flexibility to use just the box on the car if required, and is a separate clean area for bedding away from stuff in the trailer. The side opening lid also looks better for access....
Many thanks
Jim

Don't know the weight. However it goes up on the gas strut with ease and stays in position. It is a substantial piece but it isn't meant to be flimsy. Seeing them if you get the chance and they will make sense.
It has only come down once and that is because I had only put it up a little rather than used my common sense.
The lid has a cushion running around it to ease the blow on any trapped fingers.
It is easy to lift and locks in position.

The weight seems fine on the lid, its a heavy feeling thing anyway (even tho its not) in our roof box we have kitchen unit, table, sims x4, sleeping bags x3, and a dog cage. So not the heaviest load, but seems fine and lifts up easy ish and stays up fine, if as mentioned its put up fully. I just need to find a decent not too big wheel clamp for it now!.
I know they are a lot of money but well worth it, you can feel the quality when you have one. We had an Erde before and this a different league. (but i guess it did cost a lot more!)

thanks both. We have an Erde 122 with lid, bars and box on top, looking to get away from those 8 inch wheels. Good to hear your view of it dubsta coming from what we have now to the Anssems.
Good to hear the lid stays open ok too with a loaded box on top. Is yours the side loading or end loading version? I think the side one only has 1 gas strut whereas the end one has 2. Could be a factor when planning to be opening and shutting a loaded box on top of it. Our box is a Kamei Corvara which I'd be sad to see go as it's great.
They are a lot, but the 2nd hand prices are so strong when it's time to sell. Watched a few on eBay but tempted to go new for the difference in price

Sorry, I should have added that fact. Ours is an end opener too. They had ones that opened at the side years ago which of course caused confusion and delay, due to having to remount them for the UK market. Otherwise you would be opening them whilst standing on the highway.
There are still pictures around which show this however 2 struts is the norm and rear opening. Just gets better and better.
I found mounting the extension kits was easy, but actually I should have gotten a bigger trailer at the start.
