We are looking at options for mattress toppers in the caravan on the pull out bed. Duvalay seem very expensive for a roll of foam - are they worth the money or would a £30 Aldi / Dunelm topper be as good?
I have the Aldi one on my bed at home and it's great. Will be using it in the caravan as i have spine trouble so need some support.
Worth buying in my eyes.
I had a look at Duvalays at the show in January and I thought they were very bulky. Certainly in my van I'd have nowhere to store one, let alone two.
I've sewn my bottom sheet to my duvet cover down one side and along the bottom. You could do a similar thing and sew two duvet covers together. Cheaper than a Duvalay. You'd still have the bulk though.
The quality of the memory foam is key, especially if you are shall we say "cuddlier"
Have had cheaper memory foam and non memory foam toppers previously (not sure the Aldi ones are memory foam) and they do come up different in density of foam mainly which will hugely affect how good they feel to you.
We bought Duvalays in the end and should have done so from the start - that's not to say there aren't other slightly cheaper options, but higher density memory foam is not cheap anywhere
Another vote for Duvalays here. Best thing we have bought, easy to make up beds, comfy nights sleep. Just fold ours in half in the morning and store under the seats.
we are campers but don't like sleeping bags and airbeds but as a family of 5 the cost of duvalays would be ridiculous. We switched to camp beds with self inflating matts quite some time ago but the end of last year I was fed up with the sleeping bags and decided to make my own 'faux duvalay'.
Our faux duvalays are made simply from a double duvet & duvet cover (these are 200cm x 200cm) and a SIM inserted into the duvet cover underneath the duvet. The children have 5cm Aldi SIMs that cost less than £15, I have a 10cm Gelert one and hubby has a 7.5cm Costco SIM (under £30). I tried to make a double by using a single duvet with two SIMs inserted in the cover but the single cover is shorter than a double.
Ours are 'no sew' as we just tuck them in at the open side but if you feel the need to enclose them more you could sew across the bottom.
They take a bit more to put together but it's cheap to change the duvet thickness or SIM. The SIMs allow you to adjust how firm/soft you want them and compress well too.
We bought a mattress topper for our caravan from Aldi. One of our best purchases. Makes our bed really comfy and I've covered it with a duvet cover, so no sheets
We had an Aldi memory foam topper for our TT for a couple of years and upgraded to two Duvalays at the end of last season. There is just no comparison in the quality and density of the foam. Wish we had gone for the Duvalays earlier.
I looked at Duvalays recently and loved the feel of the memory foam, but thought the quality of the covers not very good. I have since bought memory foam and covered that in a similar style to the Duvalay at a much reduced cost and with far better quality covers. I can change the tog rating of the quilt as the seasons require. If you are at all handy then this is a option.

Thanks for this fantastic idea. I've been to Dunelm and bought two good quality thick and cosy duvets for just a little more than the price of one single topper, put a sim we already had inside the duvet cover on one half - perfect! I can't wait to try it out now, and all for over £120 cheaper than 2 duvalays!
we tried them out in February on the floor and only hubby complained he wasn't comfortable however have just come back from using them on camp beds and everyone is happy with them even if hubby is now saying he may invest in king size as he found his feet would stick out of the end.
I will say treat them as you would your home bedding as after 4 nights use we removed the SIMs and found they were rather damp this morning
