Picked up the Rugged Aldi Mobile Phone today £30 nice piece of kit, and the same unit as the Fonerange Rugged 128 which sells for around £60! so well done Aldi.

The battery life on this phone is awesome, you could easily get a month or more between charges.

For me this has been a definite upgrade from my Nokia 113 (Dumb Phone) and is ideally suited to camping, it even has a built in torch!

Yep, that's the one although the Aldi WorkZone model is all Black.

It is one hell of Dumb phone, I charged it up last Sunday, and it is still on full charge, the operating system is Nokia from around 2013.

My Son (30) was so impressed he got one as well, for when he is out doing sport, save smashing his smart phone.

I also have a iPhone, but that is quite delicate, so it gets left in the car, the Aldi Rugged phone was purchased for when I am out on the Bicycle, and for camping duties.

So it's a Fonerange 128, would like to get a spare battery for it, but I have not been able to locate one as yet.

Also the power lead is none std, USB to Micro-USB but the phone end is a longer connector than what is standard, so getting a spare lead is also a challenge.

Looks like it could be a Nokia-compatible battery.

I don't yet know about the battery it is huge compared to most Dumb Phones, the capacity is 1700mah, I charged it up over a week ago, and it still says battery full!

Getting a spare charging Lead should be easy, but I don't think the battery is from any other Nokia phone, all work in progress.

In car charging is not a problem, as the USB Lead will take care of that.

I purchased one this time last year when they were yellow as above and £10 dearer. Apart from twin SIM (one reason why I purchased it) its not quite as rugged as a similar one SIM Samsung I also own. And unlike the Samsung the yellow one does not have a browser so its defiantly a dumb phone. Are you saying the black one has a browser?

I must be doing somthing wrong, as the phone connects to the Bluetooth in the Mk6 Golf, so I can receive calls on the move ok.

The problem I have is that the phone address book will not pair, when I select Phone Book via the VW Golf MFDU it just says no entries, in fact under Call Registar via the VW Golf MFDU it is not possible to view missed/recieved or dialled calls.

The only way I can make an outgoing call is to either use the actual phone, or via the cars display keypad and dial the number by hand.

It is not the ideal solution whilst in the car, it just means I can take calls but not make them.

I can live with it though, as I mainley got the phone for outdoor use, and whilst cycling.

Maybe this will change when I get the Mk7 Golf next month, the current Mk6 Golf I drive is a 2012 plate, and I notice that the phones software is 2013.

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem with the Aldi Phone Contacts list not showing up on the cars system.

Francais, I am looking for a sim free tough phone for rallies - i.e. dust, rain, snow and mud. Does this one have an alarm, vibrating alert; I know it has a camera as read the spec for the 128?

I don't need Internet access, just use it for calls and texts and don't use my phone in the car at all - most places I travel have poor signals so it's better off.

Yep, the Aldi Rugged phone has Vibrate and there is also an Alarm Clock setting.

The settings are:

General
Silent
Meeting
Outdoor

Which is very Nokia esqu, the "Meeting" setting is Vibrate and "Outdoor" gives both ring tone and Vibrate.

For £30 I am well happy with the phone, and even now since being charged over 8 days ago, the battery is still saying full, I thought my other £10! Nokia 113 Dumb Phone was good on battery life, but the Aldi Rugged Phone just leaves it standing.

You keep calling Nokia a dumb phone, the yellow phone is just as dumb, so what is special about the black one?

Nothing special the Fonerange 128 (Yellow) and the Aldi Rugged WorkZone (Black) Phone are one in the same, the only difference that I Am aware of is that the earlier versions, had a lower capacity battery.

Also previously Aldi had the Yellow version at £40 so it has come down a tenner.

They are all Dumb Phones, So maybe I should have referred to them all as such, but I thought that was a given.

Of course the Fonerange 128 and Aldi Rugged WorkZone have over twice the battery capacity of the Nokia 113, so in that respect the Nokia is the lesser phone, along with not being anywhere near as robust.
