Me too!  We did stay on Caravan Club sites in this country at one time, but liked 'flummoxing' them a little because we had a wrong way round van (or at least considered that way by the Caravan Club). It always disconcerted the wardens when we couldn't pitch the way they wanted. 

We love the freedom and flexibility of France, that you don't need to book months, or even years, in advance, that if you don't like a site, your neighbours, or the surroundings, you can just say 'We're leaving this morning' and move on somewhere else.  We love the better weather, the less 'car park with grass' feel of campsites, more private and sometimes absolutely huge pitches, the better ratio of showers to pitches, and that they allow campsites in the most beautiful riverside areas of France.

We love caravanning in France so much that we've actually chosen to store our caravan there these days.

And, of course, the better weather, and the lovely food and wine!  Even cheap wine tastes good on a warm campsite evening with an owl hooting nearby, a full moon, and that lovely background 'hum' of quiet converstion that you get on French campsites.
