can anyone give me any info please on the new A28 in France? We have been on a bit of it but wondered if it was finished. We want a route from calais to Tours/Loche avoiding Paris. We get lost usually at Rouen and go round and round for an hour before we find our way so dare not risk Paris.
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks Sue & Neil

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
The A28 is finished between Rouen and Le Mans - follow the blue signs to Le Mans around Rouen not the green Route Nationale signs to Le Mans/Alencon and you should manage OK.
If you have Sat Nav I'd recommend ignoring it, most seem to want to take you through the middle of Rouen!! You still need to do the "railway yard" section of Rouen but that now leads onto the new A28 (as you go down).
Be aware that the new road has a long section that has no fuel stations on it so make sure you've got enough to get you where you want to go before you start on it!! (helpfully I can't tell you which bit!)
As I said earlier in the week the road is increadibly mind numbing - it's so featureless we couldn't even play "I spy"!!
I think the first paege (going from Calais) is something like 6.80 or 6.60 and the second one at Le Mans is c.14
We don't find the maps much help - you'd need to make sure the new road was on your map anyway and usually they are difficult to follow around cities (or is that just me!). Follow the blue signs to LM and you'll be fine!

I second your point about sat/nav. Years ago before the advent of sat/nav we got badly lost on the Nantes ring road. I have yet to meet a Brit that hasn't missed their turn off this road.
Subsequently we bought a little Polco "stick on your windscreen" compass which has proven invaluable on the ring roads around these big French provincial cities.
From Calais take the A13 to Abbevile, then follow signs for Rouen, Alencon and the A28. From Alencon it's easy peasy to get to Le Mans again on the A28. From there to Tours is straightforward.
