Windscreen stickers which show a vehicle’s emissions levels have become a legal requirement in several key French cities including Paris.

Well! I have just done a dummy-run order and the cost is €29.65 for UK and €19.85 for the French.
You can pre-order now or wait till 1st Feb. If it costs this much I wont bother!!

Are you sure you have checked on the official site and not that of a company offering to obtain it for you (similar to those in the UK that charge a lot for obtaining the EHIC card which, as we all know, is actually free)?

I have had a look at the site that I believe is the official site and it, indeed, has no English language version but clearly states the cost to be 3.78€ plus delivery.

https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/ is the site that I was referred to as 'official'.

https://www.crit-air.fr/en.html I believe may not be the official site but which I was originally referred to. This site quotes 29.65€.

Perhaps a degree of caution is needed here pending definite clarification!

Its based on European Emissions standards but there isnt one for my Cobra replica. It passes the emissions test at an MOT based on the year of engine manufature.

Slightly concerned that two of the 'additional ' towns which will be added into the scheme appear to be Dunkirk and Le Havre, so it may not be easy for Brits to avoid. (Are we allowed to say Brits?)
Don't fall for the 'copycat' websites, who will charge you a premium, as mentioned above.

I wish that one of the people who impose these ideas would tell me how sticking a piece of paper in your windscreen improves air quality -- or am I missing something?

It improves air quality in the specific area where only newer vehicles with lower emissions are permitted. That specific area will be built up city areas of heavy traffic where slow moving vehicles with their engines idling will cause a build up of toxic emissions affecting the health of those that breathe them.

This is totally different from an open road situation ie motorway where traffic volume per sq mile is much lower.

What you are probably missing is that the object of the excercise is not to improve air quality throughout the whole country because there is no need. The air quality is only poor in the city areas not the country areas.

So the windscreen sticker system allows for reduction of emissions in towns while still allowing drivers of older vehicles to keep driving them provided they stay out of areas that the 'piece of paper' in their windscreen does not allow them to enter.

Good comment as usual.
It will be interesting to see if you need a separate sticker for each town!
