Does anybody know anything about a current water ban being imposed in France until October. Apparently no swimming pools etc are open as owners are not allowed to re-fill pool with fresh water due to a current wter shortage.

My son is currently working in Argeles sur Mer - at Le Bois de Valmarie - and the pool there is definitely open.  Can't say anything about other sites though - but can't imagine that it would affect the whole of France anyway - perhaps it's just a local thing somewhere.

Apparently the ban in for the whole of France due to a lack of rain. There are heavy fine in place for using hosepipes etc and hotels, gites etc are emailing customers to inform them of the ban on water etc. I've spoken to two people who have just returned from differnt parts of France and the ban was on in both area s. But it only started on Thursday.

Just been speaking to my son in Argeles - there is no ban in his 'Department' (66) but he gave me the following web site where people who are concerned can take a look http://www.ecologie.gouv.fr/IMG/eau/Arretes_restriction.pdf.  This takes you straight to a map of France which highlights those areas with 'restrictions totale' which seems to be most of the West Coast, including the Vendee/Landes/Southern Brittany areas - whereas those on the Mediterranean side seem to have fared better, with no restrictions whatsoever in some 'Departments'.  Hope this helps.

A quick scan on the old "interweb" seems to indicate that the ban, as it relates specifically to Swimming pools (as opposed to watering gardens, washing cars etc.) applies primarily to PRIVATE pools - although whether the pools at a campsite come under this category or not I am unsure.  Perhaps one of our French site based posters can enlighten us.

NO BAN in our department (37)

THANK GOD --- I am about to fill our NEW swimming pool...

Note: Most places here still have well's - which you need a permit for (of course) so the ban is not a prob --- ish'

Thanks for your response. I have received a email from the campsite stating that the ban doesn't affect anything on the campsite- including swimming pools, etc. So fingers crossed!!
