When arriving at the peage to pay for the section of autoroute travelled make sure you check the vehicle classification category that you are being charged for is correct for you vehicle.
We have bikes attached to the back of a Ford Galaxy and tow a trailer tent. At about half of the peages the automatic sensors classed us as category 2 instead of category 1 as the bikes took us over the 2 meter height sensor.
We got into the habit of checking the display before inserting the credit card. If it is wrong just press the help button to ask the operator to correct the category before paying. They always corrected the payment to category 1 without any problem.
Category 2 is about twice the price as category 1 so well worth the extra effort to get it corrected.

I got caught like that just before we came home from our last trip. We generally only use toll roads with the van on the back but on the one journey we did solo I got charged class 2 because I had the roof box on the car. It was only a few euros so hardly worth a fuss but I will be more careful in future. It depends, I suppose, whether its just the vehicle that should be over 2 metres to be charged class 2 or the overal height including things like roof boxes or bikes?
Cheers for that, I bet we have been caught out by this in the past as we drive a Galaxy with roofbox and sometimes the ticket pops out of a high up slot like for truckers.
I have never checked the category but we are setting off for Vendee tomorrow so I will make sure we do then!
We use a Sanef Telepeage TAG, one of the reasons for getting the TAG, was that I had been told, some folk towing trailers, had been charged the above 2m rate, even though they were under, our trailer is 1.7m in height, so about 20cm taller than the car, so by using the dedicated fast TAG lane, it ensures that we are only ever charged the car only rate.
Interesting! I too have a galaxy with a roofbox and a cycle carrier attached to rear boot lid. This takes me over 2mts. We're off to soleil plage (dordogne) next week and will be covering a lot of miles. I recently looked into purchasing a tag to save time and make it easier to pass through tolls, but realised that they have a 2mtr height barrier on them,so did'nt take it any further. We camp in france every year and have covered lots of miles. I have never thought to notice which class weve been charged. Just hand over the money to the lady. Wondering now whether we have and will be in the future paying class 2 which Oliver states is twice as much.Echo what berriow says above. Does anyone know the bottom line on this one? Keen to find out.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
This is the info from https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/support/support-Faq.List/#4.0.
"4.6. What if I have a roofbox or bike on the roof?
If you are a Class 1 vehicle and have a roof load such as a roof box or bicycle that takes your overall height over 2m, you will still be charged as a Class 1 vehicle. There is equipment (laser and 3D imaging) in the Liber-t lanes that can distinguish between 'Class 1 + roofload' and Class 2 vehicles. You should be charged at Class 1 rate.
Occasionally however, this auto detection equipment may incorrectly identify you as Class 2. We advise you to check your bill when you receive it and if you have been incorrectly charged at Class 2 rate, please let us know and we will ensure that you are reimbursed the difference the following month."
So if you are going through make sure you check the category is class 1. In my recent experience the 'occasionally' is at least 50% for the time!

Drove Calais - Le Mans today in Ford Galaxy with roofbox and surfboards. Even though at one booth the ticket popped out of the high up lorry drivers slot we were always charged as class 1. Car will be about 2.3m.
Gonna keep checking we don't get caught.
First delay on tunnel today in the 8 years we have used it, stuck there about 1.5 hrs and v rainy for a lot of the drive down.
Finish off drive to vendee tomorrow with weather looking good from monday.
