I know very little about caravans, but have been forced into the position of having to sell my father's car and caravan.  I don't know where to start, so I thought a few questions on here would be a good idea!

The caravan is a 2-berth Avondale Leda Quantock (? does that make sense), and it has lots of extras like a remote control manouvering gizmo that cost my dad over £1k, and a permanantly fitted awning as well as an extra full size normal awning (if that makes sense).  I also want to sell it with all the pots and pans etc. and flat screen TV, heater, and anything else that would make it more saleable.

Questions:

Where to advertise it? I know nothing about caravan publications etc.

What to include in the spec?  I don't know what will make it stand out from other vans, but it does seem a nice little 2-berth.

Would it make sense to add the car in as well? It's a Volvo S60, and has towed the van for a couple of years with no problems. Do people buy cars with their caravans?

As you can probably tell from the above, I am a complete numpty with regard to caravanning generally, so all helpful suggestions welcome!

We have just sold ours on Ebay, and the three before that. Take lots of photos of inside the van and outside and possibly of the awning up. Make sure you include everything in your description of the van as well, what's included in the sale etc. Or you could try c4caravans thats a free website for vans, preloved is also free. We also had ours on Autotrader for two weeks it cost £25.

Good luck.

Yes, definately sell car separately.

I bought current van off E-bay, previous two were from Preloved, and I sold one on C4Caravans and the other by sticking a notice on it, parked in front of my house.

Don't forget the free ads on here.

That's great, thank you all.  I didn't know there were so many free website for advertising out there - and certainly never knew that I could place an ad on this website!

Should I leave the expensive (£1k+) manouvering gadget with the van, or take it off and sell it separately - does anyone have a suggestion on that?

The gizmo is called a mover and most buyers would know it as that name. I'd sell it with the 'van. It is best fitted by a professional.

It has been professionally fitted, so I will include that in the description - another useful bit of extra info to add - thank you!

Where's the van being kept at the moment?  If it's on a storage site they may know of somebody looking to change or could put the word out for you (ours keeps a list of customers with vans for sale & will pass details on to other customers if asked).

If it's at home & visible to passers-by you could put a for sale notice in it as someone else has suggested.

To sell the caravan, you'll do well to put it on Ebay. Give an honest description & post a few photos on the advert & as long as you're sensible with your price, you should sell it on there.

I posted mine on there last september & it sold within the first day. Used vans seem to be at a premium right now so let's hope you sell it on without any problems.

Reply to adsheadv: The van is actually still at my dad's place in Cornwall at the moment, well out of sight. The plan is to tow it back home (mine) to Sandhurst to sell it, as it is better from the point of view of having a good road network and hopefully attracting more buyers.  I didn't think that selling it in deepest Cornwall would be a good idea - but if anyone disagrees let me know!

Reply to Basilbrush: I had a look at caravans on Ebay last night - looks like a good place to advertise!

One othe question: Is there any website which gives you an idea of the value of a used van?  I can't find many Leda Quantock 2 berths for sale, so it's difficult to know how to price it.

Hi Baggies 32,

I remember reading your posts before about him being unwell on holiday.

Ebay would be the best place to be honest, Sell car and van seperately

Also some caravan companies advertise for buying caravans for cash, may be worth a google

Hi gazmister123, Yes I'm afraid he was very ill indeed, and has since died.  My head has been rather all over the place since, but as I am exector of his will I think I should sell the caravan soon rather than later on in the year.  Does this make sense?

Trouble is, I am rubbish at caravans and things associated, so it's being a steep learning curve!
