Hi

Hoping someone can help a newbie!? Have purchased our first ever caravan this year, a 2007 sterling europa 530. Just about to winterise and most forums say to remove the water filter and empty the on board water tank to avoid frost damage...does my van have either of these and if so where are they located/how do i drain/remove for winter? Have looked in the manual but it seems to cover a range of sterling vans/models and is not very specific.

Van is being stored on site a long way from home so no visits possible over winter, I have gathered the following from forum/internet...any other tips greatly appreciated...

Drain down and leave taps in open/central position, drain shower hose, drain toilet flush and empty cassette, grease toilet seals, blinds up, curtains shut, doors shut to avoid warping, oil windows seals and ensure windows are shut, remove gas canisters, set mouse traps/moth balls at floor vents, remove all food/bedding/ clothing etc, set moisture crystal trap, sylica moisture bags, plugs in, waste water outlet cover on.

Thank you in advance for any help

Sezamee

Hi Sezamee
the above link covers it all. My 530 has an internal waterpump so the filter cartridge is on the end of the connection you put in the water barrel. All I do is drain down the water and toilet flush, leave the taps open and thats about it, but we use our van all year so longest it is left is 6 weeks max. so I just ensure that we don't end up with split pipes or broken pump. The other things you list is more about routine maintenance.

Thank you so much Michael, have noted all points from the link .

Jaqugra...thanks for the confirmation of the filter issue, ours has the whale filter that goes into the water barrel too.

Panic over!

Amazing forum with fab members willing to help a newbie!

What good does it do setting mouse traps when you don't or cannot visit the van for a number of weeks? Surely if there is a mouse in the trap the trap is then useless and the smell would be horrendous.

I'm going to be winterising my caravan this weekend and I want to make sure that I do everything right.
