hi there all,
i'm the builder of this trailer and thought i ought to give you a little more info on the build,
yes, it will be heavy, however the trailer as we brought it weighed 1.1 tons, in the rebuild process i only added a few hundred kilo's to the chassis weight, which when finished ended up at about 1.3 tons, the superstructure of the trailer is made from strip cedar which is incredibly light, a whole side panel could be lifted by 2 people, so it looks a huge amount heavier than it really is, the hitch and axles are rated to 3.5 tons and are all ifor williams made, also as much of the structure is being built as light as possible with only hardwood facings on the furniture, cedar and gaboon ply internally,
i currently have the inner layer of the roof and end walls on and am just starting to build the interior, the target finished weight is about optimistically 2.5 tons without water on board
its a fantastic build to be doing, and my client is massively happy with the current state , he will be living in it while he is not away in disaster zones doing aid work, and is planning to buy a merc 814 swb to tow it, it was always known that it would be heavy but hey, its his house..
thanks very much for the positive comments, this is a labour of love, i have built most of it on my own over the past year, its nice that word of it is now permeating the internet...
cheers. dan.
