Hi, we are looking for our first awning and unsure what to go for. Would welcome any advice! We will be using it for 6 separate weeks per year, want something of good quality, not too difficult to put up. We have looked at Isabella and Ventura and are struggling to see why Isabella are so much more expensive than Ventura other than the carbon poles and slightly thicker material. Also is polyester or acrylic best? Steel or fibre glass poles? Should we look at other makes? We are happy to pay the extra if its value for money and not just paying for a brand. Any advice???

I'm looking forward to seeing the replies you get to this question as I'm wrestling with the same debate :-) I've got some info from here http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/1022826/all-about-awnings-mo.pdf but it still left me wanting to know more about specific makes.

Ventura awnings are made by Isabella, bought a ventura (made in Poland) Cadet porch awning a few years back and had to have it repaired twice.
the first time was after its first time up and then again when it was just outside its guarantee, some of the seams came apart.
sold it very very cheap telling the buyer about the previous problems.
When I replace my aging 13 year old Inaca Elba full awning
it will be with another Inaca or Isabella.

Ours too is a Ventura Cadet porch and it was well used last late hols were 6 weeks+ straight. This year its going hopefully to be 10 weeks straight. Then another 6 weeks later on. ......BUT

As we have a small 2 berth and I am in a wheelchair we could of done with the full size Ventura awning for that small yet welcome 2 foot more for that is all about it is size wise difference between the porch & full awning for ours.So we are going to have to go get full one now it will be worth it and yes they are  made by Isabella.

Thanks for all the feedback and advice. We decided to spend £461 on a blue 925 Away-daze-Torino-Lux and bought one today from Glossop. The price included draught skirt and wheel arch cover for the van, storm straps, pegs etc and delivery. 10 minutes later we had a phone call from Glossop, Blue Out of stock until May. However a blue 925 Caledonian-Lux with all the above extras [list price £547]was offered for £500.Good discount. Will post feedback on this awning once we have tried it out.

I bought an Isabella Statesman awning over 15 years ago and have used it on several 'vans, luckily all the name size. People have commented how well it fits. It withstands the storms that come of the Swiss lakes, which I have seen lesser awnings ripped to shreds.

Yes they are expensive but if you want an awning that lasts, they are hard to beat.

We have had an Awaydaze awning for the last 2 years and have been really pleased with it. The drop-down blinds on the windows ensure privacy when needed . Apart from fading the material has coped well with all weather conditions - ours is permanently erected from March to November. When it does need replacing we will be looking for another of the same make. Highley recommended.
